Help Read text messages

My nexus s keeps beeping that I have unread text messages when I have in fact read them all and marked them as read. this is really annoying and pushing me back towards my iphone which just seems to work.

Anyone know how to make my phone recognize that I have read my text messages?

The stock Messaging app has no "Mark all my messages read" function.

What I do is open "GO SMS Pro" (which I installed earlier) and click Menu > More > Mark all read.

Or maybe another messaging app has this feature.

This fixes it.

Thanks Williamc for your kind reply.

I forgot to mention that I'm using "Handcent SMS", I think that's the name of the application. It was the most recommended when I first got my phone about a year ago.

It does have a "marked as read" option which I continue to select but to no avail. Maybe I need to delete the app and re-install it.
