Android 2.x on Galaxy

I wanted to email one of the developers that had been working on the i7500, ask them what is up, why Samsung can't assign developers, if they are working on Bada instead, etc. I looked in the kernel sources and the best I could find was "anonymous@samsung.com". Thanks dudes.

Maybe I can strings some of the binaries they have, or maybe the uname of the kernel.

For anyone who wanted g.apps on gaosp, they updated their wiki.

Getting Google Apps
Before installing google apps you have to download them. Here's how you can find them:

search in google "gapps-lite-signed"
there sould be a result in 4shared.com, enter it
now download the gapps-lite-signed file
Installing Google Apps
There are 2 ways, but sometimes the first one doesn't work, so you have to use the second

Easy way:
Put the file you downloaded on the Galaxy mem (7Gb)
Boot into recovery
Select "Fix packages permissions"
Select "Apply any zip from sd" and then select the gapps-lite-signed file
Reboot
Always working way:
Extract the file you downloaded on your pc
Boot into recovery
Remount /system in read-write : adb remount
Push the files in /system:
cd system
adb push . /system
Reboot

Code:
Assigned

    * Sensors (musty & drakaz) (almost done. Need a fix on proximity sensor)
    * Audio fixed, but not yet in repo (tstrelar)
    * 3D (drakaz) (WIP - kernel patch applied for hw3d)
    * Daily testing builds (linuzel)
    * Bluetooth (Anaethelion) (File transfer OK)

It's not clean if bluetooth fix is merged to 08 build, audio problems aswell...

First of all, testing image 08 is actually broken, we have to wait until they rebuild it.

And there is a draft with some new features, but I don't know if there all are enabled at 08. When the image it's ok, I'll test it.

DRAFT

Merged framework and core with cyanogen
Unlock with unlock key or power button
Root & Superuser
New kernel based on 2.6.27 REV3, with BFS, compcache, hw3d patch and galaxo light configuration (optimised)
Nexus sounds
Busybox, dropbear
Reboot/Reboot recovery option added in shutdown menu
Bluetooth works for file transfert
GPS, Wifi, Sensors working (except proximty sensors)
Internal/External SD working
All GSM features (call, sms, mms, ussd)
Working data (edge, 2G, 3G)
Wifi Ad-Hoc
VPN, included OpenVpn from Cyanogen

Is drakaz now integrating the new 2.29 kernel (from the 1.6 Donut ROM) in gaosp???

This would fix most of the problems / issues they have because the i5700 Rom is Eclair with the 2.29 kernel

When the 1.6 source code is released yes...

If anyone has looked in the readme file in the latest available source on Open Source - Samsung Mobile you see this...

I7500XXIK2 Version.

If you have any question, send the e-mail to opensource.m@samsung.com.

So I e-mailed them asking when a new version would be release, and just got this reply...

Hello, Michael
I'm open source maintenance man in SAMSUNG Mobile, Max Cho.
I will ask the I7500 developer about I7500XEFJB6 release.
But, I'm sorry that the answer of I7500 developer about I7500XEFJB6 release is delayed.
So I will reply to you until 5th of March.

Again, I'm sorry about the inconvenience.

Yours sincerely
from. Max

So does that mean it might be coming on the 5th?

No. Well, maybe, but not certainly. Probably not.

What it does mean is that they evidently have one guy assigned for the Galaxy. :(

Maybe, maybe not. Can't really rely on broken English, he could have meant developers or perhaps just that he was speaking to the head developer... Of course it wouldn't really surprise me if there was just the one developer.

I've sent a quick follow up e-mail thanking him for the information and trying to get a bit more out of him (like why haven't we got an official 2.x release already damn it! :D). It would be nice to find out who that I7500 developer is too...

Probably he said that until 5th March he will answer your question. Drakaz said that Samsung delayed 2 weeks the latest open source release, so I think we don't going to see anymore firms coming from samsung never more.

have gaosp normal 5 screens on home like others 2.1 roms(vithout launcher) or like mustymod only 3?

3, it's android's default.
