Do the brain games help?

Anyone feeling 'smarter' or 'quicker' as a result of Android Brain Games? I see a few 'Brain Trainers' out there, wondering if any of them actually do anything.
I 'think differently' than my friends...I'm a stat guy. Got a memory that blows everyone's mind. I can solve puzzles in minutes that baffles friends for days. At times I'm a bit slow. Would like to 'speed up' if ya know what I mean.
Thanks!

I looked into those brain trainers. I had one for my DS (when I actually played it). It certainly does allow you to think faster, but only in what you train on, which is fairly limited. Will you be able to do better mathematics mentally? Yep. You'll also be able to identify patterns faster that you were before and have better short term recall. But if Harvard rejected you last year, those trainers are not likely to give you an edge this year.

There really is no scientific basis that brain training can make you get smarter. It does help your brain process information better with practice. For example, a guy who regularly solves crossword puzzles will likely have a more extensive vocabulary than a guy who plays chess all the time, but he would not be considered "smarter".

You will only be training certain faculties of your intelligence. Your brain is like a pencil, and brain games are like sharpeners.

Yes. Only the right kind of brain/puzzle games will help to become smarter.

Uh, no, you don't really get smarter. Depends on your definition of "smart". Smart usually just means "knows a lot of things". Basically you read/study for that. Not games.

Brain games train you to do certain things faster, like finding patterns, solving math problems etc, basically its increasing your specific intelligence (Gardner's Multiple Intelligences) for something, like logic, math, music, visual, etc.
