Compare, contrast, opinions: GSIII vs EVO 4G LTE / Sprint-CDMA-S4 only

Confirmed the high data rates for video though, so I expect them to be maybe smoother on the SGS3.

Yeah, but you'll be watching those videos on a Pentile display.

I noticed in the review they said the Pentile wasn't as much of a problem because you held the phone further back, and that you eventually got used to it. There were no such caveats for the One X's or the LTEvo's screen.

Exactly.

I agree with you, IMHO I think it will come down to what software that appeal to you. I.e. TouchWiz or Sense!;)

Could not agree with you more :) Sense over the years has treated me good, even thru froyo->gingerbread upgrade on OG EVO. Had quirks, but no deal breakers. Touchwiz had one to many horror stories to defect from sense.

I might add, HTC track record for updates has been very good :) With the talk of Jellybean in the future, something else to consider. ;)

Just say'n :D

Just had to chime in on this... My biggest problem with samsung is the building quality... The gs3 IMHO does not look like a high end device... To me it looks like it is trying to bite off the iphone4s.. But only worse bc it is all plastic.... It kind of resembles those hawea(don't know how to spell it) devices that are available on boost(shows how much I like apple) .. Where as with ltevo there is no doubt that it is a high end phone... You take one look and see the details the metals the feel.. Etc... Once again just my opinion... But the look of the phone is sometimes more important to the average consumer than what the phone can actually do... If I showed my friends the gs3 I don't think they would even know that it was a top tier phone... Where as with ltevo... It is undeniable.

On the other hand, while it may not look high end, drop a Samsung phone and an iPhone on concrete and see which one cracks first (hint: it's going to be the one encased in glass).

I dropped my Nexus S on concrete many times, not a scratch on it. Never even needed a case or a screen protector for it. I've already dropped my EVO and there are scratches in the matte section on the front. So while Samsung may not look high end, there are advantages to those building materials.

However, those advantages aren't enough to compensate for TouchWiz and Samsung's radios, IMO.

While this is correct it still doesn't sway people from buying an iphone.... Why it would have glass on BOTH the front AND back of the phone is beyond me... I guess it's just another way apple gets you "from both ends" lmao

Right, but looking at the two, the iPhone is far more aesthetically pleasing without a doubt. It's just that what makes it look and feel so good also makes it vulnerable to damage. Samsung's phones look like cheap Chinese knockoffs in the building materials, but they can take a pounding.

I guess the saying rings true..can't.have your cake and eat it too

Important thing to note is "Don't drop ya phone foo"  ;) :p :D (I joke)

I guess I'm just not a big samsung guy I had the moment and it was horrible... The only way I figured out how to answer calls would be to open the phone and hit the call button.. Bc the screen would show who was calling and then go black.. Super annoying... And it too had a plastic build.. And the back of the phone used to fall off constantly.... My gfs stratosphere has proximity issues as well.. Along with charging issues too.. And she also mentions the screen isn't as responsive as she hoped...

Do you think the SIII will get held up coming into the country too or is Samsung not on Apple's radar like HTC?

Not really the same. Apple won a case against HTC over over one feature in 4th quarter last year. Court gave HTC until April 19th to comply, and even though they complied early, well - the rest you know.

Right now, Motorola is facing a hold up thanks to Microsoft, but I don't see anything immediate impacting Samsung at present.

I guess I didn't realize the whole issue was just between Apple & HTC, I thought it was something that would impact other manufacturers too. Interesting.

What I don't get is... The gs3 to me looks just like an iPhone... Minus the build materials. it has similar looks all around with a few tweaks.... And s-voice? I figured apple would have a field day with that... The galaxy tab even resembles an ipad closely... Where as htc phones look nothing like iphones.. Makes you wonder why they gun for htc so hard

But they gun for everyone.

They've already had Samsung in court for about everything, including the shape and color black.

They've been clogging every court in the world that would listen to anything for well over a year.

The HTC feature that they hated we had on the Evo, probably the Hero. But they waited until they built up steam with the others, and sales increased, to complain.

If anything, I would say the lines of the Epic Touch mimicked the iPhone more than the GS3. the GS3 is probably the farthest from the iPhone design of any Samsung product, and probably for good reason haha.

Added the iPhone to the mockup I did a while back, it's a wittle baby.

HTC did not do much with Sense this time did they? Seems rather unchanged. Touchwiz from the video's I've seen looks a lot more fun (other than the camera app). Smart stay is brilliant!

How is it that the EVO is killing the benchmarks yet so many reports of it lagging, are they the new benchmark queen? How can this happen with such a fast phone?

I've noticed a lot of reviews say that Sense 4 was more ICS like, but from the app drawer to the multitask window, the new Touchwiz is more ICS like so I don't really understand what is more ICS like on Sense, the launcher bar at the bottom?
