[Verizon] A few questions (backups, restores, etc.)

So I finally got settled into a new ROM (This one, with the radios and the power menu + tethering mod, both linked in that post), and have both it and my old stock ROM as NANDroid backups. Most things are good so far but I have a few questions:

1. What's the best way to backup browser bookmarks for restoration, and in particular for backing them up and keeping them organized as they were? I tried using "Bookmark Sort & Backup", but it ended up making all my bookmarks show up in the Local folder, and the ones that would normally synch from my account never did. Also, all the screenshots for the bookmarks are gone... but I'm not as concerned with that, though it would be nice to have.

2. Are the buttons in CWR extremely touchy for everyone else? I hit the volume up or down buttons and it'll scroll anywhere from one to five lines. Even the power button is touchy, sometimes clicking multiple times in one quick press. I had it make a backup right after wiping because of a double click.

3. Is the Touch version of CWR as reliable? Or would I be better off sticking with the regular version?

4. How the hell do I get rid of Google+? I tried disabling it, which worked on stock, and my stock 4.0.2 root. I also tried freezing it with Titanium (on separate tries I froze it after disabling and without disabling). It keeps popping up after a reboot. I haven't tried the "Force remove app (by recovery exploit)" in Titanium yet though.

And that's all I can think of for now.

Yep, the scrolling issue is notorious on Nexus.

You can always make backups through ROM Manager, too. The benefits are that (a) it controls Recovery for you (so no scrolling at ludicrous speed through the options ;) ), and you can actually NAME your backups to something recognizable and not just the date/time code (such as my backup, 2012-06-03-AOKPb37).

I have purchased Clockwork Touch; the $1.99 is a small price to pay for the hard work that Koush has put into this community. Happy to support him. While I haven't had the occasion to go into it yet, anything's got to be better than the scrolling nightmare that the Nexus presents.

EDIT: I actually DID go into Touch Recovery just now to try it out for you. It's an absolute DREAM. Highly recommend it! :)

I highly recommend the touch version of clockwork, you can download and install it for free yourself from the clockwork site:
ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries
Scroll down to "google galaxy nexus (verizon)"

As to, question 1: I use the stock browser and my bookmarks are automatically restored after a data wipe. I use the option to backup my data to google.

I've never tried to remove google+, because I use it to automatically back up photos and videos I take. And I think it is baked into the OS now, so you may not want to force remove it without first making a good nandroid backup.

I was playing around with my phone last night and figured out how to get my bookmarks back (I should note I use ICS browser +, which shares bookmarks and other assets with the default browser).

At first I tried the Dolphin Bookmarks to SD, and it actually managed to restore the default browsers bookmarks in all the original folders. My copy of this however has a different icon, and a different background color than the screenshots in that store link, but it doesn't seem to need updating.

Then finally it dawned on me... Titanium did backup my bookmarks but since they're a part of the default browser, it's a system app, and I didn't restore it. So I fired up Titanium, did a data only restore of the stock browser and everything's exactly as it was. Hopefully it won't cause any bugs, but so far it seems fine.

I'll be scoping out the Touch Recovery.

touch recovery is awesome! you can get it for free if you install Scary Alien's root toolkit. normally i am all for supporting dev's, but considering i have already paid for the premium version of ROM manager, i don't feel that it is right to charge me again for touch recovery.

I see your point completely, Solid... but considering they're two different products (albeit by the same developer), I don't mind paying for both. We'll agree to disagree on this one and let our dear fellow forum members decide for themselves :)

Definitely liking Touch Recovery. So much better controls. The only downside to having it touch enabled, is you have to be a bit more careful how you grab it if you're moving it around.

Ah I wish I'd seen that link earlier. I agree, it is kinda crappy, and normally I'd refuse to pay for it... but laziness and convenience won out. I really didn't feel like pushing it with adb. The fact that the dev has done a lot of good work made it a little easier to convince myself to spend another $1.99. But yeah I still agree in principle.

The touch recovery is cool and I do use it as a true touch recovery sometimes but I've been using the volume keys for so long on so many phones that I almost prefer it actually plus I think its faster. Thing is...you can still use the volume keys for scrolling on the touch recovery, at least the version that I have BUT the over scroll problem is fixed on the touch version even when the volume keys are used. ;)
