Buy before June 28 or wait?

hi all-first time poster, been lurking for a bit. I have family plan with all lines due for upgrade, mine only with data plan and it's unlimited. I've been available for upgrade since 1/2010. Actually had flashed my xv6900 with Android back when it first became possible lately been using pixi plus. So I decided on maxx because of battery and radios, didn't think they would raise price back up before 28th. Now considering SG3 just on price. I see that whiskydaniels did well on getting a deal. So does anybody have some tips on getting a better deal?

yes. i pulled the trigger on this at amazon.com. newegg.com and ebates are also offering the 199 (+30) price for upgrading a line. amazon seems the easiest to deal with if you have problems, so i went that way. don't be worried about the text plan change, it won't affect your current plan. i called vzw to ask and to see if they would match price (they won't) or give me a rebate (not $100, they did bypass the $30 upgrade fee when I did this on my s3 upgrade)

Aaron93-was that new contract or upgrade? think the maxx seems like good reliable that will definitely handle the next two years well (especially since last brand new phone from vzw was xv6900 (htc vogue)), and lock in my unlimited. Seriously considering SG3 though because unlocked bootloader, "newer" chips, accessories, etc. Figure if the radios/battery don't cut it then i can exchange for the Maxx.

I called the Verizon online customer service and then the local store and asked both if there is any way I could get a better deal on two Razr Maxx phones for my two available upgrades. Both were totally robotic and "matter of fact"in saying.... "No sir, that device is $299, I'm sorry, but there is nothing we can do to change that price."

So how do you gain any sort of advantage while talking to them so that they break from the standard reply and get on to making some deals?

Maybe I need to call and just say that I would like to drop two lines from my contact? Would that gain some bargaining interest from them?

i am in the middle of trying to sort out some issues with my plan after upgrading through a best buy mobile location.

Fry's had a weekly deal on the Maxx $99 for new or upgrade customers. Best Buy did a price match for me an din the process i told the guy i wanted to keep everything about my plan exaclty the same. i had UNLIMITED EVERYTHING. my calling and text was a promotion from a while back that was 69.99. and unlimited data was 29.99, i also have a discount of 10% because of who i work for. well, looking on my account online the next day my calling was unlimited at 69.99 but text was only 1000 at 10.00, upgrading to unlimited was an extra 20.00. i have been in store twice to try getting things sorted out but nothing has happened right yet. tomorrow i have time to go in once more and raise hell. almost thinking i should have bit the bullet when verizon had the max at 199.

Just picked up my Droid Razr Maxx today from Best Buy (first time I've bought my phone from someone other than Verizon). Anyway, I paid $199 even though it was $299 in the store. They matched the ebay best buy mobile solutions store price of $199.

How did you manage that? I asked them about this and they said they don't price match from on-line sites.

Do to time constraints and financial limitations, I conceded to the gods of Verizon and missed out on the Maxx and instead opted for the $199 Galaxy S 3 for me and the $149 (+ $50 mail in rebate) Motorola Bionic for my Daughter.

I know I'll be sorry, but we just don't have the jack to swing the extra $100 for the Maxx. If the battery on this Samsung completely blows.... I'm going to cry.

S3 has a 2100 mAh battery compared to the maxx's 3300 and the nexus 1800

My wife and I both had Droid Incredibles for the last 18 months and last week we both had different problems within a couple of days that required factory resets (2nd time for me) so I decided to upgrade both. We each have the unlimited data plan for $30 each and if we upgraded by 6/28 we would be grandfathered to this plan until we upgrade again. I ordered two Droid Razr Maxx from Amazon Wireless for $199.99 + $30 upgrade fee for each one. Mine was eligible for an upgrade and hers was eligible next month. Both of her parents are also on our account and have "feature" phones and both were eligible for upgrades, so I "upgraded" my FIL's phone.

I activated mine over the phone. We took hers to a VZW store and they swapped the upgrade from her Dad and activated it.

To make things even more interesting we were leaving to visit her sister for six days so I had the phones shipped there (Colorado Springs) so the store we took her phone to wasn't even our "home" store. They had no problem doing the upgrade swap and activating her phone. They even answered some questions I had about my new Maxx.

We had looked at the Maxx at the local VZW store on the Saturday before Father's Day. They said it would cost $199.99 to upgrade both but we had to talk to her parents first to see if they wanted to upgrade either of their phones. When we checked the price online on Sunday night the next day, the price had gone to $279.99! The local store had failed to tell us that the lower price was a Father's Day sale price. Amazon saved us $80 + tax on $649.00 on each phone! The total savings was about $260.

Props to Amazon for their great price and 2-day free shipping and props to VZW for not giving us any grief about swapping the upgrade and activating my wife's new phone!

this is sorta frustrating. I really like the maxx and was ready to buy. now I have been in the forums, looking at reviews. Tomorrow is last day to lock in my unlimited so i plan to go to the local corp store (and maybe best buy next door) and see if i can get some kind of deal. If not, it's a white SG3 for me, ugly touchwiz and all.

The price increase on the Maxx pissed me off. I should have gotten it last weekend.

Now, I am trying to figure out if 2 more years of the grandfathered plan is worth spending the extra $100 right now. Or should I wait until prices drop, new models come out, etc. but end up with the metered plan.

What do you think? Anyone else in the same boat?

Depending on what exactly you use your phone for and how long you're thinking about holding off on purchasing a new phone, why not go buy yourself a prepaid phone and line and suspend your line that you don't want to lose the unlimited data on. Its actually a nice little loop hole. Or if you decide to wait and your unlimited plan expires can see if anyone you know has it on a line they don't need and take over that contract.

interesting james98520. food for thought until my lunchtime field trip. Can you keep your number when you do this? Actually looked at ATT to set up comparable plan for family and could create similar plan to new share plans with 4GB data for less $$ but vzw LTE is in my area. I considered the amazon route for the maxx too but looking this week they were $229 for upgrade, not 199.

Yes, everything stays the same. Basically it's like freezing that line, number, plan until you unfreeze it. You don't have to pay for that line or anything during that time period as it just extends your contract through the time you've frozen it. So say you suspended Line A for 3 months, then you just extended the contract it's on for 3 months.

***Forgot to mention, there are two forms of suspending a line if you log into myverizon. One option just suspends the use of the line (ie punishing your child for over usage) and so the line can not be used but you still pay your monthly bill for that line and the contract ends on the normal expected date. The other option is like I was describing where it just freezes everything until you unfreeze it or until 90 days have passed and then you can freeze it again if wanted/needed to.

Now if you were to suspend a line, and transfer that line's phone number to a prepaid line while you waited for a better deal on a phone, and then wanted to put that number back on your new phone when you got it, I have no idea if that would work.

Also another thought is see if the company you work for receives any discounts with Verizon. That may help bump a few dollars off the price tag.

AT&T is cheaper generally, but I know in my experience through the years, Verizon service has been much better for me.

sooo I went to the vzw corp store today to see if I could work some deal and after waiting for a half hour without getting to the head of the line, had to leave. So tonight I go online and decide to preorder the SG3 to save $70. As i am going through the checkout, a $100 discount shows up on order. Boom. Still love the look and feel of the maxx but really can't complain right now. thanks all.

i got my maxx from amazon for $199. REally nice phone. Also, since I have had droid 1, 2, and 3, I am partial to Mot. Yes it is really $229, because there is the $30 upgrade fee. This is on any phone. Yes, you might be able to get rid of it by calling vzw, i did on one of my other upgrades to the S3. You can't do this with amazon or best buy or newegg etc. , but you can get a maxx from them for $100 less. If you do the vzw upgrade, it is really $329, not 299 anyway.

BTW, since i had 3 upgrades, i got a maxx for use, and S3 that I plan to sell immediately prob for $550-595 on line, and hoping that the maxx comes down again in the next month, and swap the S3 for it....
