My daughter physically broke the power button on her un-rooted phone and so is unable to restart/power down the phone without doing a battery pull which of course is bad.

I have tried a few button re-mappers but none seem to work without root.

Since I can't even get into odin without the power button anyone know of a way to root the phone or of some specific app to re-map the power button to something else without root?

Whats the original warranty period for the prevail?

I know she doesn't pay for any extra insurance on it so probably not worth it to pay out of pocket to have it fixed when I can pick up a new one for less than $50.

A tip to get phones with out power buttons to turn on is connect the charger and then wait for the battery power loading screen and then unplug the charger and then it will attempt to boot.

If it won't boot or starts to and shuts off probably just a dead battery and let it charge a while then try again.

Found this out trying to figure out what was wrong with her phone.

You could try that while holding volume down and camera. It could work

Those also need root which was the point of the thread but good ideas none the less.

Still don't know even with root and using an app if I can get say the camera button to wake up the phone and to unlock it during phone calls and such.

I didn't see anywhere in this thread where you mentioned how old the phone was. The warranty is good for 1 year and Samsung will even pay for you to ship it to them. If there is no visible damage to the phone that would make Samsung think that you broke the power button I would contact them and have it fixed.

Even if the power button is actually broken, I would still give the warranty a try. It will not hurt to talk to them. ;)

Ya I asked how long the warranty was because it is less than a year for sure it's like 4-6 months old.

Thanks WB

I know she doesn't have her box or manual or anything and I no longer have my prevails so didn't have that info lying around.

Most of us probably figured if you knew how to use Odin, that you knew to use a rooted image

No problem. I saw where you asked the question but I didn't see where anyone answered, lol. A 1 year warranty is pretty much standard on most phones.

Also, I really don't think you'll need any of the info or box. Just contact Samsung. I have heard that they are easy to get a long with too. It may take 12 days to get the phone back but that a small price to pay in order to have a fully functional phone. :)

Was very simple went through an online chat gave the imei and they checked it was under warranty. Then they emailed me a ups label to print and I have it packed up and ready to drop off to a ups pickup site.

So all went well. I am used to most things having a 90 day warranty refreshing to have 1yr warranty.

Hopefully they don't wipe the whole phone considering it was just the physical power button that was faulty but who knows.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Excellent!! :D Now come back in here and root it for your daughter when you get it back so you can install 1 of the custom ROMs. Then she'll have the baddest Prevail on the block. lol :p

Ya plan to install CTMod whatever iteration that is not a "leaked" build.

She always asks when she is over if I can make her phone as fast as mine use to be but never has the time to stick around long enough for me to do anything.

Now she won't have a choice I gave her an old flip-phone in the mean time.
