[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Hi. I am fairly new to the Android. I am trying to update my Milestone to Froyo 2.2 just released via Telus, here in Alberta. Every time I download the file via Media Link Update and try to install, I immediately get an error message which says: "Failed to uninstall previous motorola software update". No one seems to be able to help with this error. Motorola themselves are useless.

My question is a newbie question and simply involves asking if the Motorola Droid and the Milestone are much the same phone and would the method outlined on this forum work for the milestone.

If not, does anyone reading this forum have any insight as to why I am getting this error. My phone is not rooted, but it is unlocked.

OK. After posting this I then see some people are asking the same question. Sorry. Anyway if someone has an idea about that error message, I would still appreciate a reply.

Thank you for your time.

Not sure about the error message. However, as far as I know, the method is the exact same! HOWEVER, the FILE is different! DO NOT use the file(s) in this thread as they will not work and could possibly mess up your phone! If you have a file that is meant for the Milestone, then use this method to install that file.

Hi, I live in the uk and have a droid not with any network. every time i try, its says the verification message and aborts. can u help m,e out, cos im getting really pissed of with 2.1

I have a motorola milestone on 2.1, but not had any update for a long time, still waiting for 2.2 even though some devices getting 2.3. any alternatives you have to get 2.2/2.3 manually rather than waiting for OTA update??

I know I'm digging up the past, but I have a Droid 2 Global and recieved the Gingerbread update and HATE it. Could I use this Froyo update to return my phone to it's previous state?

It's not normally possible. The only way it would be possible is if you have a nandroid backup from when you were running froyo. You should be able to just restore to that. The other option is to SBF flash back to stock. Do that here. http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...id-2-global-sbf-file-2-4-29-full-rsdlite.html

I tried downloading the update.zip file and updating it as you mentioned, but it aborted. If I use your instructions to revert back to stock, will I lose the MetroPCS phone connection as I had paid 75$ to someone for getting this verizon phone up and running on metropcs? The only issue I face with my current phone is that I can't use youtube or update google maps. Here are the specs of my phone;

Droid 2.1 (ESE 53)
Baseband C_01.3E.01P
Kernel: 2.6.29-omap1-g1c56172-dirtyadamz@ubuntu#1
Build Number: Smoked Glass v6.0

Pls. advise. Warm regards, Amir
