Loose Dedicated Camera

Is anyone else's dedicated camera button super loose? Mine actually rattles when I shake my phone.

After playing with an S3 yesterday I'm starting to like this phone less and less...

I got it so it would be faster than my Triumph and give me better touchscreen sensors, with fewer typos. But Sense is so ugly and heavy that it cancels out the higher end hardware, and I'm finding the touchscreen to still be too small/glitchy. I picked up a Galaxy S3 and tried typing a test message for the first time yesterday, as fast as my thumbs could possibly move, and didn't make one typo. I rock at 700 kb/s on good days in terms of network speed. Not to mention the radio interface shortages.

I realize it's unfair to compare at $300 phone to an $800 phone. I'm just hoping to see CM9/10 on this phone soon, before I switch carriers.

The only thing I like this phone for now is the development, and the fact that the capacitive buttons work normally unlike the Triumph.

/end of whining.

[Edit] - Sorry, could a mod move this out of the root thread? Thought I was posting in the regular Evo V one.

My camera button is fine, but my 2D/3D switch rattles. Not too worried about it as I've got a warranty and I rarely use 3D as it is anyway. I've disabled sense and am running the stock ICS launcher. Works great if you can stand to lose htc widgets.

All in all, as others have stated, I couldn't be happier with this phone knowing I'm not locked in for 2 years. That alone is worth the quirks to me.

I'll speculate that the loose camera button is to not have constant pressure on the switch to maintain its firmness; I don't know. (it is a 2-position button)

I'll admit it makes it feel a bit cheaply made--but the rest of the phone feels, acts solid.

The S3 is very nice (I got to fondle one this weekend) and I could stomach the cost of the phone but not paying more monthly for less service.

Well I'm paying $35 a month on Virgin...and T-Mobile is $30 for unlimited messaging and 5 gigs of 4G HSPA+, which covers pretty much everywhere in my entire state. Granted you only get 100 minutes...I only use about 200 minutes though anyway. I wish I could just pay T-Mobile an extra $5 and have them tack on another 100 minutes on to that plan. I know some people know a way around that, but it sounds like a hassle.

I don't want to make this "one of those threads", but there are S3s on craigslist for $400. Considering I paid about $330 for this phone, it's not bad at all.

Or maybe I'll just settle in with this phone. I'm really eager for cyanogenmod though. I think I could manage with it.

Regarding my OP, I ordered a really tight fitting case. I think it'll secure the button a little, which should mask the cheapy rattling button I'm guessing, or hold it in place.

if all you need is 200 minutes a month the $30 dollar walmart plan would end up costing you $40 a month since they charge 10 cents a minute once you go over 100 minutes.

if you are not happy with vm you could just spend $5 more a month and use the phone of your choice with t mobile.

Do that exactly. You can top up from anywhere you want or just pay the overage fee on a per minute basis. It's a great deal. I'm switching to it too with the Nexus, but if you can afford an international S3, go for it! That phone is the best phone you can possibly get right now IMO.

while i will agree it is the best phone but there is a major problem using it on tmobile and that is you only get 2g.

i still think a getting a used sg2 for around $200 is the best deal for tmobile unless you are lucky enough to find a used nexus which i never seen 1 on my local craigslist in the last 6 months.it seems like once most people get a nexus they never part with it.

No...? You get 4G until you hit your cap. And it's faster than WiMax, oftentimes.

My 2D/3D toggle switch rattles but idc. An S3 is like a ferrari and the evo v is like a supra...actually that's not a fair comparison cause I'd rather have a supra lol, but of course you're probably gonna want the ferrari over the supra if you test drive that. Both are good phones. Comes down to if you wanna pay that much more.

Mine is in an Otter Box so... no rattles. If you can swing the price of the Otter Box I highly recommend it.

I run Go Launcher instead of Sense and it runs flawlessly. If you are having trouble with responsiveness try some of the lighter launchers like ADW or Launcher Pro they may improve your speed.

Be careful what you wish for. Seems to me all of the ROMs I have tried have problems of their own.

Having switched to the SIII, I can say this phone performs far better than what it looks like on paper.

That's because that phone's 1.5 GHz processor isn't just any 1.5 GHz CPU...it's twice as fast at the same clock speed as the one in the EVO V. It's a Snapdragon S4. That phone's performance is as good as it sounds on paper :)

Run Linpack. You should see multithread scores around 200.

T-Mobile USA's 3G/4G network is on a different frequency than AT&T and most EU providers. Whatever GSM phone you use, it needs to support 1700 and 2100MHz UMTS. They are in the process of refarming their frequencies, but for now that is what you'd need. The T-Mobile S3 obviously works, but the AT&T and EU ones don't (I don't believe, you should verify before buying).

A brand new GNex is only $350, has no risk of getting burned like a used purchase, and has basically the same screen and features, plus Jelly Bean and no skins/bloat. The processor is a bit older and less capable though, but it's still pretty stout.

It should be noted that the Cortex-A9 based TI OMAP 4460 in the Nexus is spec'd to run at 1.2-1.5 even though it is at 1.2 from the factory, so theres a bit of extra horsepower there, and it was my mistake. I read somewhere previously that the international S3 won't really work on T-Mobile's HSPA data network due to the radio.
