The Sea of Tranquility
Last night I decided to try to get Flash enabled on my N7. I read a couple of tutorials and set to work. I extracted flash from my LTEvo , installed it on the N7, d/l and installed Firefox beta. This didn't work at all, all I get is unsupported mime type where the video should be. I tried the non beta firefox (not supported in 4.1) and it would play one video, fail on the next and need a reboot to work again. Next I installed Maxthon browser. This works, but locks up after a short testing session. Anyone get flash to work properly? What browser and flash version are you using? While flash is not that important to me, now that I've tried to get it to work and failed?

"He tasks me. He tasks me and I shall have him! I'll chase him 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round Perdition's flames before I give him up! "

I recently purchased a Nexus 7 16GB for my wife as a gift . we are soon travelling and tablets are far lighter than a laptop. The problem is the lack of flash on Android 4.1
She was hoping to be able to play games with it, and this is supposed to be one of the things it is marketed towards. But the lack of Flash makes choices severely limited. She is particularly fond of Bejeweled, but this is a flash game so she cannot play .
Is there any way of working around this? I'm in a bit of hot water now, so any help would be great. Rooting is not an option, as she is not very technical, and I don't want to be on the hook for support.
Thanks.

I know you said rooting is not an option, but 'The Nexus Root Kit' thread in the 'All Things Root' gives very good instructions on getting the N7 unlocked and rooted. Doing that allows you to install the stock JB browser and sideload Flash. I just did that and tested on CNN and some other websites. Worked like a charm. If you want to try, you'll get lots of help on the forum and your wife will be very happy.

If it's inappropriate to post any of these files, here, please tell me and I'll take them down, straight-away.

Adobe Flash Player 11.1 (Sideload this)

Dolphin Browser HD 8.5.1 (Last version to support Flash. A little slow, but works well - Once installed, DO NOT UPDATE Dolphin HD from the Play Store or you WILL lose Flash support (in Dolphin, that is))

Firefox Aurora (Tested extensively with Flash, sorta slow and crashes randomly (not even flash related), but works well)

xScope Browser Pro (Tested extensively with Flash, works great- Fastest/Smoothest video playback)

Boat Browser (Tested extensively with Flash, works great)

Smart SWF Player Pro (Plays any .SWF file perfectly - I use this to play Cargo Bridge :D)

And, this one requires root, but is BY FAR the best option:
How to install AOSP Browser on the N7 [w/o flashing] (Easy to install, BLAZING fast, rarely crashes, plays Flash *flawlessly* - You still get bookmark sync with Chrome, so keep it installed and use the Chrome bookmarks widget, but the steps involved in making it work requires removing the AOSP browser's ability to sync bookmarks)

Jay,

I am not ageek, please explain how to "sideload" an app like Adobe Flash Player 11.1 ? Do I need to download it to my computer and then using the USB cable to transfer it to the Nexus ?

Thanks

You can just visit this thread from your n7 and download it. Once done, pull down your notification bar and tap the download and it will install. It might prompt you to enable unknown sources under development settings, first. If it does, just enable it as instructed. In any file explorer, the downloaded file will be in /sdcard/Download

I don't know what is up with my particular N7, but none of the Firefox variants worked for me with exception of the release version playing flash once, needing a device reboot to play again.

Maxthon, never one of my favorites, played OK but crashed and locked up randomly.

Dolphin works, but is a tad slow and lacks basic pinch to zoom functionality  A lot of people love this browser, I never understood why. I find it over complicated and bloated.

xScope seems to be the best choice (so far). This used to be my go to browser back in my Samsung Moment days. I moved on to Opera for its superior d/l capability (or web kit based browsers d/l capability stinks) No free version anymore?

Boat? Need to give this one a try.

Dolphin HD has one feature ALL mobile browsers need.. A 'back to top' button.

Yeah, there's still a free xScope

There are a couple dozen apps/plugins out there that will grab the .swf and related files for you. Combine one of those with the magnificent app I've linked here, and you have all of your favorite games full screen, basically running as apps :)

Hi,I'm new here and newish to android, after having an iPad 2 with lack of lash unless our bought an app, you got a laggy slow flash enabled device. I wanted a tab with flash, and thought android was unlike controlling apple, who won't allow flash so you purchase items through appstore. Seems like android/Google p,at might be wanting the same thing. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that adobe won't be catering for few above 4. Sorry for rant, but the flash on this is worse than the iPad.

I've been using dolphin for flash. The u.s. open is underway and I need to watch at work. :)

I was using it on firefox but like a poster said, its very pixelated. On Dolphin the quality is excellent and I have no stability issues on my N7. However, yesterday it stopped playing flash. It popped up a message that said dolphin disabled flash because its no longer supported...even though I never updated dolphin. Weird. So I had to uninstall and reinstall. I hope I don't have to do this every couple of days. That would be annoying. If this keeps up I'll go back to stock ics browser.
