Yes, Chris, you are correct, keeping the GPS on will cause your battery to drain quicker than with it off.

However, I do not know if the GPS does need to be on, I can't find anything about it on the Samsung Dive website. It is possible that the service just uses mobile signal to tell you where it is. I'm not 100% certain though.
