hey everyone.. im looking for some protection for my tablet... i tend to leave it out, and carry it anywhere so im looking for some form of protection.. would especially like to protect the screen as well when not in use... so im looking at a few options and would love to hear people weigh in on what they think about these options... i honestly didnt think id be using my tablet much, but i keep finding more uses for this thing i never even thought it can do... so the increased usage has led me to decide i should get protection

first option is the leather-esque folding cases, inexpensive, protect from scratches, and cover the screen really well so even dropping some smaller objects on it wont damage the screen

my other option is something like the gumdrop case.. in fact they make a gundrop specifically for my tablet... has a screen protector, as well as a thick silicone shell that apparently from reading reviews people have dropped these off tables, out of their hands, onto the ground and have taken no damage.. but these cost the most at about $50

third option i could look into are the silicone skins for the tablets... offers more protection than nothing, not as much protection as a gumdrop, but not as much bulk or weight either allowing the tablet to remain slim and light, and i could add a screen protector to this as well to maybe have a balance of protection and comfort

some questions.. are all screen protectors a film? how are they applied and are any made of a harder material?.. and how well does a screen protector actually protect the screen?

so... what are your opinions on these?.. which route did you go, and why do you think it was the best solution for protecting your tablets?

yeah, thats an advantage to the case... you dont need a screen protector and most double as a stand as well

Another advantage of a case/sleeve/cover is that it affords waaay better protection than a screen protector: it protects the whole device, on all sides.
I.o.w. I would forget about a screen protector. The device's screen glass is hardened anyway. Maybe even Gorilla Glass

my devices screen is the gorilla glass stuff... one reason i was considering the silicone skin was to give a better gripping surface, the aluminum back of my tablet tends to collect grit and fingerprints worse than the screen does as well... but ill probably get a case i can close

You'll be amazed how much gunk, dust, and grit will accumulate inside skins like that! But I use one too. To me the main benefit is that it lifts either the screen or the lens on the backside 1 millimeter off the surface the phone is lying on. Preventing direct contact. And some can look spiffy too.

i notice there are typically two types of tablet cases.. the kind that the tablet slides into with the foldable cover to tuck behind it for a stand, and the other kind has six clips that hold onto the tablet, bottom two are removable so the bottom of the tablet will swing out and be used as a stand that way

i think id rather have the first type

The problem with the first type is that they make it harder to pull down the notifications.
