So I've noticed the past 2 nights that my LTEVO has a red LED light that's just barely visible (only in dark room) on the left side by where the lighting sensor is. It doesn't go off until I restart the device and I don't notice it again till the next night.

Any clue what this is or why it is on?

You guys are correct its not an LED (wrong terminology ), but there is a red light showing up at the top left of the screen where those sensors are.

It stays on until I reboot the phone and then seems to come on randomly at some point in the day because I dont notice it again until the next night when the light in the room is dim enough to view it.

Grab Elixir 2, it's free, choose Sensors, button in the middle.

Click the triangle (play) on the proximity sensor test, that will light up that sensor as a very, very dim red. Click the box (stop) on the test and it ought to go dark.

Let us know what you get.

Wonder what you're running that's on about that sensor?

That has happened to me to. But my proximity sensor had been acting wonky. The light did appear to come from that sensor.

I rebooted a couple of times and after a day or so, it seemed to fix itself. I haven't seen that light.

Yes, that light is the proximity sensor then. Strange. It did go on when I started the test and stopped at the end.

For now, you can use that to turn it off instead of a reboot.

I don't know the names of the apps, I think that you do (if true, please mention one here for me), but I understand that there are apps that do a deeper analysis of what is using your battery. Maybe you can use one of those to correlate what app is active or over active when the trouble appears.

PS - maybe time to try 10 second hold on the power button (same as battery pull for those unfamiliar).

I have betterbatterystats purchased that I can install, but I use that for checking partial wakelocks. I'm not sure if that would be helpful for this but its worth a shot.

Its definetly the prox sensor mine was acting weird when I first installed a zagg shield and I could see the faint light when the sensor was in use.. My thrive does the same thing

Interesting. I have a zagg installed as well.

I flashed MEANrom today and haven't noticed the light on yet, but its been less than a day so who knows

Proximity sensors typically use infrared. There's two main components: the IR light source (an LED), and a sensor that measure how much of the IR light is bounced back. The human eye can't see IR light, but depending on the wavelength used, there could be SOME portion of the light that barely falls within human vision on the red end. That could account for the faint red glow.

What this would imply is that the proximity sensor is on when you see the red glow. If it's frequently on and you're not in a call or using an app that requires the proximity sensor, then something is messed up.

The only time I saw this was when I put my zagg shield on and it was messing with the proximity sensor. I would have the phone away from my face and the screen would still be black with that faint red light. Now my prox sensor is working fine, and I'm always trying to see the light and i never can. Even if trick it with my finger I still don't see it. Pretty interesting.

I know exactly what you mean novox about the ir sensor. If i record a video of my Toshiba thrive with my evo I see a flashing blue light. But you can't see it with the naked eye. In the case of this red light I could see it easily.

Is your proximity sensor getting wonky?

Or, is it under the grill?

The Evo had a hidden LED as an Easter egg...

Sorry if I sound dumb but idk what a proximity sensor is, anywho,

I have my normal notification lights/LED on the right, and lately I've been seeing this red light on the left under the grill. this is my second EVO Shift as the first one's touch screen died on me. I had never seen this light with the first phone tho. I initially got paranoid the the govt was watching me (lol) :bath:

The proxitimiy sensor is a sensor that detects if your face is up against the phone. Which is how your screen knows to turn off when you put your phone up against your face when making a call. Thanks

Do you see the light only when the screen is off?

A proximity sensor is a sensor that will turn off the screen when something comes in very close proximity to it. Such as when you make a phone call, your face is against the sensor thus turning the screen off so your cheek doesn't press
any buttons.

Did you notice this is the Evo LTE forum? Your phone, (evo shift) as you say, is totally different than the Evo LTE. We only have the green/amber led under the grille on the right side.

I had the red light at the top left of my screen on my Z740 Android Radiant and i went into settings under (display) and unchecked (pulse notification light) and now i have a green light. I hate red lights, green means go :D

Welcome to the forums! :)

Our phone has a different set up from yours, but, glad you got it sorted!
