Root [Verizon] Leaked Verizon JB ROM

Not sure why no one has posted it yet but there has been a leak of a Verizon Jelly Bean rom a few days ago. Unknown of course if this will end up being the final one but it is on XDA.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968494

Have you tried this yet? I just read the whole post. I'm going to wait for a little. I'm currently on LiquidSmooth RC5 and it works great right now. Please keep everyone posted of any changes and your experience if you've flashed. Thanks.

I decided to hold off for a couple days after the chef posted a "rebuilt" version of it. I read that this particular leak is becoming the base for all the other major JB distros for the SGS3 so it should be good. I guess I'm just as chicken as the next only because my stock ICS rom has been perfect for me. The only reason I want JB is for project butter and Google Now. There are new radios with the leak as well though I haven't had any issues with reception either.

Have you noticed any issues with this ROM? If so can you please describe? Thanks

Honestly none really to speak of. As long as you've read up and researched the ROM and the installation procedure, you shouldn't run into any issues. Of course there's the usual disclaimer that anything can happen when flashing a rom so there is no telling until you try it for yourself. gl!

New Vzw jb leak out tonight. J1. Shouldn't be too long before vzw sends out OTA from past experience with leaks. CleanRom 4.5 should land tomorrow for you rooters!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33870614

So it is interesting. This is typically what I would expect to flash (Scott provided the first link in my OP using the same method). There is another one from the dev that provided Scott the leak that uses ODIN, preserves your apps and data AND is able to be rooted and the bootloader unlocked after flashing. It is then just like an OTA. I wonder if that is a better way to go if you read through the thread.

I'm not digging this triangle thing they talk about though, even though "there's an app for that".

I've done it both ways. I've also restored to stock via odin just to get the correct partitions all squared away. So many people say it's the best way to do it. My opinion? I don't think it matters. I can't tell the difference.

I don't think you need to odin at all unless you screw up your phone and are in need of a major recover. Same goes for the rpm file. I've never flashed it, but some swear by it.

Either way you have a great many choices and you can experiment yourself and see what you find as this phone has become easy to tinker with and pretty tough to brick.

My suggestion is do what you feel is best. If I were you, I'd wipe away (clean of course x2), flash your new rom, and enjoy

For my own curiosity...what is "rpm' file? Thanks

I have to comment on this--

CleanROM 4.5 is AMAZING!

I just rooted, unlocked, and installed CleanROM; holy crap! The thing is amazingly awesome and fast responding.

I also recommend flashing with TWRP for recovery--that system is AWESOME and it enables an install application to setup CleanROM exactly how you want it.

I just fell in love with my G3 all over again!

CleanROM 4.5 is worth it -- if you want none of the bloat crap and all the speed in the world.

Resource power management I think. As far as we know no one knows with 100% certainty what this does or if it does anything at all. Good read on it here still a work in progress last I checked

I've been running the factory image since Saturday (so 4 days). I used downloads 8 and 5 to keep my apps, data, setup intact and then reroot/unlock. Very stable so far. Battery life on par with ICS (19+ hrs for light to moderate use). Google Now is fast! Much faster than the old voice search.

Looks like the gallery WiFi sharing has been disabled (see shared folders for devices on the same network). But it may be a setting I haven't found yet (default off).
Only other issue I have is occasionally the briefing alarm will fail. It will start talking then stop after a second and switch to the specified sound file. But that may be that I switched to the Samsung text to voice a few days before installing JB.

I use Apex launcher, and I have noticed a stutter when panning from screen to screen. Once you've been thru the screens it's fine (cached). But I never noticed this in ICS with Apex.

I have no plans to go back to ICS.

I strongly recommend trying CleanROM 4.5 Jelly Bean.

I've been running it for a few days and it's incredibly responsive and has no issues. I had a lot of problems with lag using the stock ICS that came with my S3. I do use Nova Launcher Prime, but CleanROM 4.5 has the option to use Apex if you want.

I also tested Wi-Fi Direct sharing and it does work.

Really think you should try CleanROM 4.5

I've been reading up on CleanROM 4.5 since your posts about it. Looks good! Did you need to flash a new kernel also or just the ROM? My rooting and flashing experience is limited. I played a little with my Dinc, but I'm a little intimidated to try it on the GS3. So I'm at the reading and ask questions stage. :)

Not at all--it's fairly easy.

1. Root your phone.

2. Download Ez-Unlock from Play Store and unlock your bootloader by simply clicking "Unlock".

3. Download GooManager from the Play Store. Once installed, open it, and click your menu button. Click the OSRecovery Script Install and follow through with it.

4. Download CleanROM 4.5 and put it on your phone.

5. Boot to TWRP recovery, wipe your data/factory reset, then hit install and select the CleanROM 4.5 zip file.

That's it -- fairly simple.

You make it sound easy anyway :)

For step number 1, "root your phone", aren't there several methods of doing this? Which do you recommend?

I used this guide. I've done it with 3 sgs3's and not one single issue.

CR4.5 and CR LE-3.5 come with the kernel. Samsung has not released source yet so there are very few TW kernels, but aosp has more options at this point. gl and have a blast!
