Root Updating unlocked/rooted device to 4.2.1

Hi,

I have not received the 4.2.1 update yet, so i'm going to ask this question before I do.

I am unlocked, and have rooted/installed busybox via the nexus 10 root toolkit.

If/When i get notified about the 4.2.1 update, and i apply the update, what will the result be? Will i have to re-root, and reinstall TWRP recovery? Or will this brick me?

Been rooting for life but this is the first time i don't have a custom ROM on a device, so i haven't hit this scenario before.

Hi Joe. I moved this to the All Things Root forum for you. If I remember right from my Nexus 7 days, it will unroot you. You can either wait until the firmware is available for download and use one of the tools to flash it, or wait for a zip to be made that you can flash in recovery. You can use OTA Rootkeeper to temp unroot and flash in recovery.

Got the update, installed it, verified with root checker that it had unrooted me, then used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to re-apply root. Checked again with root checker and am rooted again.

Update: Lost my custom recovery so I ran the 1-click again... all is fine

I just received the 4.2.1 OTA update. I am unlocked and rooted.....but no custom recovery like CWM. I preserved my root with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper as soon as I unlocked and rooted out of the box. My tablet info is version 4.2.1 and build JOP40D after the OTA, so no issues with the install. I lost root after installing the update but I was able to get it back with Voodoo. I verified root with root checker and terminal emulator and installed a couple of apps to make sure they got root access. Everything is good. This has been the easiest device I have ever had to unlock, root and update.

Do we know if anyone is actively working on building a 4.2.1 stock rooted image?

No one has posted anything on xda either.

I saw that. But i was turned off by the mention that it is a "debug build". What does that mean? I don't want extra lag or anything because the rom has debug turned on.

Not quite sure about the "debug build" but this ROM flies. I have had no lag at all. This is just as snappy as stock.... Maybe a little quicker.
