Root [Sprint] Stock android jelly bean lg optimus g?

Hi everyone,
i'm contemplating getting an lg optimus g. I don't have enough patience to wait for the google nexus 4 to catch up with demand and i figure lg optimus g is essentially the same phone.

My concern is the user interface on the optimus g. I want stock android 4.2 like the nexus 4. I haven't customized an android phone before because i used to use iphones. Is there some way to put stock android operating system on the optimus g?

I've heard of people rooting phones and making custom roms. I'm not sure if there are any drawbacks to doing this but i've seen many youtube videos with galaxy s3 phones using stock android.

Anyone with any insight into this i would love to hear from you. I haven't gotten any responses on this yet.

Thanks!

hello there,
so i moved you to the optimus g root section, since i forsee the conversation pointing towards rooting the phone. this is the only way to get a pure android experience. the roms are called aosp which stands for Android Open Source Porject. these are roms that are pure android with none of the manufacturers added stuff. so if that is what you want then you will need to root the phone.

i will leave you with the guys here in this forum to clue you in on how to root as i have never owned an Lg device.

Alright, well I haven't gotten the phone yet, and this is the second time I've posted this question without a response. I just want to know if it's possible to do this and if it's hard. I'm not worried about warranty or anything like that.

The only reason I ask on this forum instead of investigating myself is by googling I have found no information about rooting and putting stock android on an lg optimus g. There are so many different manufacturers that make android phones and there are so many different names for roms and hacks out there that I'm a little confused as to what I will even be able to do.

I'm also curious if using a rom to put stock android on your phone improves performance or takes away from it. Does anyone know this?

I'd be curious to see the lg optimus g with stock android 4.2 rom against a nexus 4. They are essentially the same phone with some minor differences mostly hardware related.

well i have answered so you did get a response:p

unfortunately it looks like there is not much of a dev community for your phone that you are getting. i think there is cm10 which is Jelly Bean.

and as far as aosp roms go, they usually are smaller and this faster then stock (from LG). most custom roms will usually be faster as sometimes devs will add performance tweaks to them. but again there does not seem to be a whole lot of support for this phone. so i'm not sure if you want to root it or not.

i always pick my phone by how well the dev community is.

and the nexus 4 being google's baby will get more support as any nexus device is easily rooted and designed for devs to easily develop for this phone.

I think part of the problem with this phone, and this is just my opinion, is that LG is having a problem keeping up with demand for this and the Nex 4, so it's going to take awhile to get anything out there so to speak.
Also, again my opinion, I think LG & Google have badly blown the introduction of this series of phone, the G & 4, so it may never get "out there" so to speak in any numbers.

That's very unfortunate if it happens.....

I think the optimus g for sprint is better! I own one and couldn't be happier. In my opinion the optimus does not need to be rooted. *You usually gain issues with custom roms or asop's*. I have yet to have any issues with the phone, it works and does it well. I do find that the camera software needs some tweaks, hopefully updated with jelly bean. The only plus to the N4 is no contract.

issues with custom roms? it depends on how good the dev community for your phone is. i have the evo 4g lte and the dev community is excellent. i have tried many customs roms and most of the issues usually get worked out with the updates the dev works on. plus rooting allows more ways to troubleshoot. but rooting is not for everyone.

but i do agree from what i have seen and read about this phone, it is a pretty good device.

Coming from the OG EVO, I am loving this phone. There is a lot more going on over on the XDA site than there is here. They have gained root and unlocked the bootloader.

I myself have not done any of that myself yet as I am very happy with it stock. Plus, after a couple years playing with the EVO and constantly switching things up on it, this is a nice break for me for now. I know I will root this wonderful phone someday, but for now, I'm on root vacation.
