Anyone else gonna ditch the Mercury for the Galaxy S3?

Yep... Got mine today (ordered online). As it's been said in earlier posts, it's what you make of it. The Merc was a good device (read: Cricket) but just lost its "flair" real fast (owned one) Don't have 4G here yet but 3G works great for me. Batt life is iffy, but I haven't really put the phone thru its paces yet.
If you are able to get one, I say go for it.

So GMASH, have you decided what to do yet? Get the phone or not?

Here's what my Mercury is used for now.

I use it for filming. I used to use the my Samsung Indulge, but the quality was pretty bad, however sound was pretty good. The Mercury films very well, but the sound is horrible.

Now sometimes I throw the Galaxy S3 in there and wow, super quality, plus the microphone picks up everything perfectly. I had no idea how bad the Microphone on the Mercury was, until I compared it to the Galaxy. Even at night the Galaxy can see License plates clearly. The anti-shake option is really great cause I have very shaky hands, and when I film with that option, it really does work great at keeping the camera from shaking. It's incredible!

I can't say enough good about this phone! So what's going through your head Gmash? I'm curious if you would continue the trend of trading up every Christmas!:)

I see. So if your area already had 4g LTE available you probably would have bought it with no question right? Sucks that they haven't your area.

Did I mention you can zoom in and out while filming? Lol, I feel like a Cricket sales man.

Well, can you recommend a forum that has cricket users with the Galaxy s3?
On this website all the carriers with Galaxy 4g LTE are all thrown together and I'm wondering if you can recommend another forum.

Yeah, if we had 4G here it would be a no brainer. I might still get one tomorrow, I doubt that it will be this cheap again anytime soon. Sucks that it's a mail in rebate, though. If it was $350 up front, I wouldn't hesitate.

I think you're in the wrong section. The one with LTE in the name is an Australian/UK version. (read the first sticky)

Try this one:

They have all the carriers together, but separate All Things Root sections. They have Cricket lumped in with Sprint for some reason. I would have thought Metro PCS would have been a closer match, but whatever.

CricketUsers also has a section.

Cricket Samsung Galaxy S3

Don't know if you've been over there yet.

Oh wow your right, I posted in the wrong area. Thanks for showing me the correct area.

I have never been to Cricket users, but I think I will sign up for that one, so thanks again.

Did you hear about the new Galaxy S3 mini that's coming out? I believe it's the exact same size as the Mercury with a 4 inch screen. But for some reason it's only getting a 5 megapixel camera. I don't know if there is going to be any other reductions from the regular S3.

I'm thinking you'd probably prefer that phone due to size that you were concerned with, but the size you really do get used to and start to love. I don't know, just thought I bring it up. Not sure what phone service will be getting it though.

Went to the Cricket store today, (had to pay my bill anyway) I had the money for the S3 in my pocket in case I really wanted it. For some reason I was thinking the last day for the MIR was the 19th, but it's actually the 29th. I even put the 29th in my post above lol. (duh) So I decided to think about it for a couple more days. The guy at the store said we'll be getting 4G here soon, probably next month, so I'll probably end up getting one. This guy seemed like he knows what he's talking about compared to most Cricket employees I've dealt with.
I'm not crazy about either of the colors, though. I don't like white phones, so I'd have to get the blue, which is a little too purple looking. I can live with it, but I really wish they had a black or dark grey color.

I got the white, cause I actually researched it which you can on youtube, and most people who got the blue, wished they had gotten the white.

Plus the white mixes with any other color. I have a Black battery cover plus a blue one and the mixed colors look good.

I think people are so used to Black, but I love white, and am loving it more the longer I have it. I like how it allows you to see where the sensors are so easily as well. Not to mention, when people see the white, they know I have an S3, if u wanna show off lol. The other color just mixes in with others.

I recommend youtubeing white vs Blue on the Galaxy and reading the comments. After all, I imagine this is a phone you will have for a long time...at least I do.

I got my GS3 on Christmas Eve, after having to wait a few days due to local stores being sold out. I went with the blue, I looked at both, and couldn't do the all white. The blue is growing on me, it kinda changes color according to the light. Still would have preferred black.
So far I really like the phone. It fits in my pocket fine due to being so thin and light. Screen is pretty awesome. It is true how fast you get used to it, the Mercury looks small now. Battery life has been pretty good for me, but that's on 3G. Lte is a battery hog. My 3G reception seems not as good as the Mercury though. Phone reception is fine.
I don't like Touchwiz at all. I put Go Launcher on to cover that up as much as possible. Most of the Samsung stuff is gimmicky and I have turned off. Samsung keyboard sucks. Installed Swype beta and all is good.
Overall, considering this is one of the top phones of the last year, I'm impressed that the Mercury holds up so well in comparison. I still like the look and feel of the Mercury, and it still works well. If something happened to my GS3 I wouldn't have a problem going back to the Mercury. For $350 the GS3 was well worth it. I still don't think I would pay full price, though.

Congrats, didn't think you would make the change(though u got the wrong color :p)

It's such a fast phone no matter what's running. The thinness is amazing. Next to my friends razor. it was almost as thin!

The Mercury was a decent phone with potential, but this is what I like now!
Thanks. I couldn't pass up the sale, and I wanted to be ready when LTE arrives lol. I love the screen, the thinness, and the speed. Now bring on the 4G!!!
