Loose 2D/3D Switch

I bought my phone straight from virginmobileusa.com and got it on Jan 3rd. The 2D/3D switch on my phone feels loose. It would wiggle when I gently touch it and make a rattling noise. Sliding it between 2D/3D works fine but it's just the wiggling and rattling that is odd.

Is this normal? I'm wondering if anyone else with this phone has this.

You sounded solid on your answer, so I assumed it had been discussed or you otherwise knew. I guess I got lucky on mine :D I don't like cheesy feelin' switches on stuff. Being common, it shouldn't make a bit of difference on reliability though, it's just a handle for the actual switch. Thanks for your input; I woulda had him sending it back for no reason. OP could still end up in orange coveralls after tearing open all the boxes in Better Buy trying to find the good one :smokingsomb: Hopefully not a problem, since we're all smart enough to have a smart phone.

mines is like that but I assumed that's how it suppose to be cause I noticed that like when you press it it like clicks twice. so you press it a little the camera focuses when you press it all the way down it takes a pic.

I was referring to the 2D/3D switch. You're talking about the camera shutter button. My shutter button is solid and doesn't move/wiggle when I gently touch it.

Is your phone a Sprint branded one or is it Virgin mobile branded. And I am curious as to what version is your hardware?

Mine is 0002.

Mine wiggles a little. probably wiggles up to 1mm max. I have no problems actually toggling between 3d and 2d. I've just given up on the evo's buttons, they're all terribly hard to use compared to my optimus V (currently using camera button full press as "power" and half press for "camera". Can't seem to remap buttons in jellybean roms though, I don't know why).

I'll check next time I see my phone. It's outside and I gotta fight three dogs to get in and out while I'm hanging storm doors  I came in for a drill battery and decided i should sit down for a while. Feels nice out there now that it's 30F again! :D

I think there is just a tiny amount of play, but doesn't move unless pushed one way or the other. Wife's phone has no play at all side to side, just a hair in and out, no rattle at all on either.

I think it's just tolerance between the parts. They try to make things so any part A fits any part B, or it becomes a labor and quality issue with human judgement calls, or with cheap overseas labor, just not caring.

Hardware is 0002, and I can't detect any play at all on it. Shutter release actually seems to have more play. If I gently tap the 2d/3d switch, it sounds like skin on solid plastic, dull. On my wife's, I get a plastic on plastic click when I tap it. Shutter release on hers is actually better than mine. That tells me it's just tolerances. Might change with temperature too. Both phones have been sleeping and are cool, mines actually pretty cold from the porch. I'm pretty cold too. Done with that for the day!

Yeah mine is the same. When I first noticed it, I thought that my 2D/3D switch is defective. It just wiggles a little when you touch it and sometimes make a tiny tinky sound like when you hit a piece of hollow metal.

I'm not concerned about it now since this seems to be a normal thing with the phone. Sliding between 2D and 3D works without a hitch. :)

Gotta enjoy the cold weather when you get it :D

Well, mine has very little play side to side. It has a little more play moving up or down and sometimes make a tinky metal sound when you push it up then quickly letting it drop.

It is possible that they design it to be a little loose so that it has more tolerances and less prone to breaking.

oh I see what you are talking about. well my 3d/2d switch is kinda wiggly. sometimes when I rub against it with my hand I be checking to see if I broke it. but I thought when I 1st got the phone that something was wrong but it doesn't phase me now I got use 2 it

Yeah, I was worried at first but it works fine. No issue at all. I guess they just make it that way.

All of our phones will be revision 002, only the very first Evo 3d's were 001. Someone else might know more but the only significant difference that I'm aware of is that the original version supports usb otg without requiring external power.

Thanks for the info. Does your evo v have loose/wiggly 2D/3D switch as well?
