Root [Sprint/Cricket] [Official] Sprint OTA Jellybean 4.1.1 (updated)

Rooted with CWM flashed. I got the ota prompt to install this morning. When I clicked install the rom it took me to cwm to install the zip. Prompt said to install unverified file. Hit yes and installed. Once I was done it asked if I want to fix recovery and then again to keep root. If you hit yes to both before restarting then everything works like before.

Hopefully this helps someone out.

Thank you for this. I had no idea about this at all. Probably because I have TWRP but thanks for sharing!

Okay, so what the difference between QBking77 way and Freeza way? I did it QBking77 way the first time he put it on youtube. My S3 was/is bone stock and was wanting to start rooting! I keep reading that Freeza files was rooted, amirite? Do I need to do it the way Freeza got his listed in order to root? Btw I'm a noob!

Qbking77's way actually roots your phone. Freeza has rooted ROMs if you wanted to flash a ROM and keep root (because it's already in the ROM, no need to reroot after flashing).

Are you rooted?

No Im not rooted! I only just did what QBking77 vid say do. If it rooted the phone, good! Isn't there a way to check to see if that rooted the phone?

Yes. Do you have Super User in your app drawer? That's a big indicator if youre rooted. Also, there is an app in the play store called "Root Checker" that can check if you're rooted.

Im sorry. I think we both confused on what we are talking about. Im not talking about QBking77 how to root video, Im talking about the manually update I follow in his vid. I was wondering whay was the difference between his and Freeza's?

Oh, I got you. The difference is the manual update is only about 3xx MB's and it's only an update from LI3 to LJ7 that you would get from an OTA update. (I unrooted and went all the way back to LEN and after updating to LI3 from all the OTA updates being pushed, I got the LJ7 update from Sprint. That's the file in the video). Freeza's is the complete ROM. You flash it just like you would any other custom ROM. Freeza removed the files that force install the stock recovery as well when you reboot.

I don't understand what that mean. But in other words, since I manually updated using QBkinng77 way to 4.1.1, can I still use his other video on how to root while on 4.1.1? Or is there any way to root my phone now since the update? Do I need to do it Freeza way to get root.? If so, how do I un-do the update?

There are files in all official updates that will check to see if you have stock recovery and if you don't it will reinstall it, that's what I meant by my previous post.

You can root Jellybean. Go here and follow the steps. It's simple. Samsung Galaxy S III - QbKing77.com you will still be on Jellybean. It just roots the phone and installs a custom recovery.

ok so I am rooted and am using freegs3 rom. Which file do I use to do the update? or do I need to just download and flash a new rom with jelly bean on it?

FreeGS3 is a custom ROM so the update files won't work on your ROM set up. Go to Settings > About Device > Android version. If you installed the latest FreeGS3 then you're already on Jellybean. If you installed a later version, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745865 and download the latest version, boot into your custom recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache, then flash the ROM.

Backup apps and sms/mms with apps from the play store (sms back up and restore, titanium backup or mybackup pro), boot into recovery, nandroid backup your current ROM settings (as a precautionary), factory reset, flash ROM, enjoy.

Seems the "mirror" site was only downloading 722MB.
I opted for the 760MB from goo.im
