Frisco, my sincere apologies. The new link I gave is not good either (it doesn't work for att). After about 4 hours and reading several different guides, I finally found one guide that says "don't reboot because it will erase cwm". I would think that might be an Important thing to mention, since just about every guide says to have "restart" checked in Odin.

I think the original guide probably still works, but imho it was just poorly written, and I believe it was the reboot that was preventing me from following it all the way through.

To be perfectly honest, I can't say I found even a single guide I would consider "a really good explanation" for rooting the ATT S3. I think the guide I originally linked was a pretty good guide, but it just uses a different recovery image than our phone needs.

I may write a what I consider a "good guide" here on our forum if I get the chance. I feel that it is sorely needed. Sorry again about being incorrect on the links in OP.

Actually, some are reporting success with the new guide. But I like the idea of you having a handle on what is needed as far as wording etc.. if you don't mind and have time, go ahead and put together one that seems to have the clarity that you have recognized as missing from the other two.

What I'll do in the mean time is put a note in the Root Guide near the link explaining things a bit. :)

Literally, an idiots guide to rooting and ROM'ing. This program holds your hand all the way through.
