Help Help: Stuck at "Downloading" in Play Store, Default Browser Won't Load, but Everything Else Works.

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. Been reading up forums all over the web and trying out everyone's advice:

My problem is that
1. I'm stuck at "downloading..." at Play Store (Actually, it's still called Market on my phone, since this is an old Xperia mini.) Nothing gets downloaded, so I can't even update the Market version.

2. Also, the default Google Search won't load. Keeps saying "Web Page Not Available." I'm using 3G.

3. Everything else is working. Gmail can sync, Maps, Talk, the Facebook app, YouTube. I was able to download Opera Mini from Sony's stock "Appxtra" and it works pretty fast. Which is why it puzzles me because the default Google browser doesn't work at all. That, and Play/Market.

BTW, earlier than that, I got off to a rocky start with my first hour with the new phone. Apparently, when you first use it you have to input your Google account at the setup page right away. I didn't do that. So for the next two days, I couldn't do anything with the phone except play music and surf the web through Google's default browser. (Loads so slow though).

I did factory reset, used wi-fi, and input my account details right away. And everything was fine. I can use the default browser.

Then I stumbled onto another problem. Apparently I had 2-step verification on, which is why I can't enter Market.

However, once I used my application-specific password, cleared the market data and google framework, and did a factory reset again, I was able to enter Market. The only problem is that (see Number 1 & 2) I can't download anything, and suddenly Google default browser won't work (whereas it was fine in the beginning), can't even go to the google page.

(I've tried clearing market data and download manager and taken the sim out, turned off the phone and back on, but still nothing. ):

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, mothproof. I've placed your query in the Mini forum hoping others will chime in who own that device.

First of all, is the battery fully charged? Is it too old to contain a good full charge? Old batteries sometimes to cause issues when trying to restore the old phone. ;)

I do think the reset was the right thing to do, but things may have gotten out of whack because of the order in which the procedures were performed.

I'd first remove the external sd card and either replace it with a new one or format it on my PC (that can be done on the device, of course, but we want it out for now).

Then I'd remove and reinsert the sim card.

Next full hard reset:

Turn the power off. If your Sony Ericsson Xperia mini is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Left and right buttons located beneath the display
Press and release the Power button
Follow the on-screen instructions to hard reset your phone
All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

Now place the new or formatted sd card in its slot.

Hi Frisco,

Thanks for the swift reply.

You know what, immediately after posting this, I read somewhere that the APN settings (specifically the port and proxy IP should be kept blank.) For some reason, all the web resources I had looked into kept saying the APN settings for globe (my network) should be:
Proxy: 203.177.42.214
Port: 8080

Which I thought was fine to me since everything was working. (Except for Google Play and Google search)

Anyway, so now I changed those values to none, and immediately Market automatically updated to Play. (a magical moment for me.)

I'm sorry for polluting the forum, but I really did wait for four days before I posted to any forum. Again, thanks. :)

P.S. Anyway, now I'm no longer scared of doing Factory reset. With my other (now stolen) xperia mini, I was so scared of doing the factory reset. :)
