Would it be wise to get this phone as of today?

No one knows exactly if the Nexus S will continue to get updates, having said that there's absolutely no reason the Nexus S won't continue to get updates unless there's an update that requires dual core or things the Nexus S doesn't have, which I highly doubt, at least any time in the near future.

The phone is still amazing to this day, the only negative is it doesn't record in HD, which I seriously hope it comes to the phone. It still outshines a lot of phones that have come out a long time after and yes, the single core still works great.

Which is why I'm getting this phone too

I have only 2 complaints about the nexus s.

1. specs.

some things are slow. it's not just 4.1 it is just low on ram, low on storage space, and low on processor. also, the battery life is not amazing, but you can get another battery for it if you want.

2. lack of LED notification.


if i could have this phone but modernized i would be so happy.

i like the screen size, a tad larger would be ok. the screen resolution could be improved, not having a notification LED, i find sucks quite bad, no SD card slot sucks quite bad, poor battery life sucks quite bad, but could be worse, and speed definitely feels slow.

I think that getting one NOW, is maybe not the best idea. i mean, idk, how cheap one of these would be, but it might be worth it if it is cheap enough, and you don't want to much with it, me i have a ton of apps.

the new Nexus is only 360$.

I wish it were a bit smaller, and i'm not a big fan of the weight and fragility of gorilla glass on front and back. still no sd card slot, having the latest updates always is amazing. i love the stock android. i'm really torn with whether or not to get the nexus 4. there's no amoled screen, can't remove battery, it's big and heavy and fragile, the headphone jack is on top... idk. i like the idea of it being a nexus, and the processor and ram is awesome, but i wish there was another nexus phone being released around the corner.

it's odd, it's like they went out to make the phone all pimp looking, but at a really cheap price, and omitting useful features. i'd rather my phone be good than look good.

nexus s looks good, feels plasticy and kind of cheap, but that's a good thing imo. my phone is not something i wanna worry about. it's a tool i wanna drop and toss around, and use everyday, and have it look good enough and be useable.

but still, for 350$, i think the nexus 4 would be worth it.

i wish i could take the nexus 4 guts and stick them into my nexus s.

The bad things I have to point out:
- Lack of SD card slot.
- Short battery life.
- With certain apps, it gets laggy

TO be honest, I wouldn't trade it. I'll make it last as long as possible, because I really like this phone.
But if you have an opportunity to get something better, go with Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 4.

I'm sure that by now the OP has decided, but since the thread started it's been announced that the Nexus S will not be getting 4.2. So if updates are important I'd recommend the N4 now.

My 2p's worth having both the Nexus S and 4. ..

I prefer the size of the Nexus S and think it's a real shame that it'll not be getting 4.2 as it's probably the best all round phone I've ever had even two years owning it. Although the Nexus 4 has the shiny new factor about it and is no doubt faster, I actually prefer the size and feel of the S to the 4.

Super phone and should be reasonably priced now, if not actually cheap. 5MP camera only, but takes fantastic pictures. Yes, video isn't HD, but how often do we do video? I have medium sized hands and this is easily the most aesthetic fitting phone I've owned. Not just in the hand, but also while speaking into it, it feels very natural against my face. Screen is also beautiful, although smaller by todays standards. Last but not least, it has JellyBean (4.2), which is not that different from ICS (4.1) but it does have Google Now, which I love. Have to experience it to appreciate it. Only 2 gripes I have is, 1- compared to some of my dual core phones, it can hang up a little sometimes, but not often. And 2 - Of the 16GB memory, only about 1GB has been allocated towards apps, so you can run out of space for that. As far as the 16GB, its plenty of space unless you plan on putting a lot of music or videos/movies on it. But with so much free cloud storage today, don't see why that'd be necessary. Have my entire music collection uploaded to Google Music, so not one song is on my phone, and I listen to it now more than my iPod. Hope this helps.
