So i'm getting my first smartphone, off contract. I don't want to spend a ton, and I don't really want a screen bigger than 4 inches, which is why the nexus s appealed to me. I'm just wondering, would it be unwise to get this phone since it's already a little out dated? Will the nexus s get more updates still after jellybean? Or do you think jellybean is the last official update the S will get? Does jellybean work well on the S? I'm just wondering, because If I get this phone, I want it to last few years, It will be alright if official updates stop before I upgrade, but I would like at least one more update or two.
So is this phone still decent today, does the single core processor work good enough, and will it continue to get updates? Because I can get it on ebay new or like new for like 230$ Or possibly even on craigslist if one shows up.
What do you think?
I have only 2 complaints about the nexus s.
1. specs.
some things are slow. it's not just 4.1 it is just low on ram, low on storage space, and low on processor. also, the battery life is not amazing, but you can get another battery for it if you want.
2. lack of LED notification.
if i could have this phone but modernized i would be so happy.
i like the screen size, a tad larger would be ok. the screen resolution could be improved, not having a notification LED, i find sucks quite bad, no SD card slot sucks quite bad, poor battery life sucks quite bad, but could be worse, and speed definitely feels slow.
I think that getting one NOW, is maybe not the best idea. i mean, idk, how cheap one of these would be, but it might be worth it if it is cheap enough, and you don't want to much with it, me i have a ton of apps.
the new Nexus is only 360$.
I wish it were a bit smaller, and i'm not a big fan of the weight and fragility of gorilla glass on front and back. still no sd card slot, having the latest updates always is amazing. i love the stock android. i'm really torn with whether or not to get the nexus 4. there's no amoled screen, can't remove battery, it's big and heavy and fragile, the headphone jack is on top... idk. i like the idea of it being a nexus, and the processor and ram is awesome, but i wish there was another nexus phone being released around the corner.
it's odd, it's like they went out to make the phone all pimp looking, but at a really cheap price, and omitting useful features. i'd rather my phone be good than look good.
nexus s looks good, feels plasticy and kind of cheap, but that's a good thing imo. my phone is not something i wanna worry about. it's a tool i wanna drop and toss around, and use everyday, and have it look good enough and be useable.
but still, for 350$, i think the nexus 4 would be worth it.
i wish i could take the nexus 4 guts and stick them into my nexus s.
