Root [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC Evo 4g LTE

sorry guys im kinda a noob at this stuff. i dont use ADB very offend.
so if i understand right after i type "adb shell" you want me to type "-" then hit enter? sorry...

No, in the following, the dash is to say, "here comes the command."

Won't be a password.

After adb shell, please try -

which su

Let us know what it says.

The "which su" command will alert us if there's a problem with the root installation.

Forget about passwords.

huh...

I might have to give this a try.

I'm S-ON, and despite knowing "a thing or two" about root, despite EarlyMon sending me a personal email detailing an earlier procedure on how to S-OFF, and despite wanting to update my radios, I still haven't attempted to S-OFF.

I just skimmed thru this thread and saw that the majority of it was dedicated to troubleshoot an issue for someone. Anyone have no issues on first try?

I'm thinking tonight's the night....

I couldn't gett it to work for me. I'm not sure we've had many successes

If Facepalm doesn't work, you can still get S-off with LazyPanda / DirtyRacun novoxx.

What hboot are you on BTW?

off the top of my head, I'd say I'm on the earliest boot version possible. I got the phone on launch and rooted it shortly after.

I believe the email I got from Early was the methodology for LazyPanda.

Didn't get to try Facepalm last night. Will try today and report back.

I'm not flashing a ton of ROMs these days, and I've always preferred using fastboot to flash rather than bootloader .zip. Which is the main reason I'm still S-ON. But I have a few radio issues that I'd like to troubleshoot by getting the most updated radio firmware, and I thought I read somewhere that this was either risky or impossible without S-OFF...

Correct, the only way to update the radio while s-on is to take the ota or via RUU, neither of which is recommended because youll get the newest hboots.

Ran into a USB issue (i think):

[HIGH]
C:\android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot oem writecid 11111111
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_DISABLE ret = 534642032 (0x1FDDFD70)
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 1.040s
[/HIGH]

I've gotten that "Too many links" error before when doing other fastboot commands like flashing a new splash page. I forgot how I ended up getting it to work last time.

Digging around some more, it seems like the issue is USB-related... either too many old drivers associated to the USB port, or the cable isn't good enough, or USB 3 vs 2, etc. I tried a bunch of cables, all of my ports, a laptop with different OS... nothing. Always get that error.

Pretty sure the problem is not specific to facepalm. It's a USB issue but I have no clue what the cause is or how to resolve it.

Hmmm, have you tried to delete all HTC stuffs and reload the drivers?

Not sure if that even applies whilst in fastboot or not. I think it's worth a try though.

Also if you're still on the 1.12 hboot, LazyPanda is the method you'll need. No doubt EM helped you out with that since Team Unlimited pulled all the files for it. If you need any help with that method or need any files let me know. I've still got everything, even the un-bricker. ;)

LazyPanda required a specific set of HTC drivers, I they were linked in the old LazyPanda thread, right Granite? I think that those are the ones that you have.

Hmmm, I'll need to look at my files. I can't remember off the top of my head. I did mine in ubuntu, so I didn't need the windows drivers. I'm at the zoo with the kids, give me a few hours to look. :)

when i wrote the dummies guide for lazypanda it only mentioned that you need the latest htc drivers.

i moved the lazypanda part to the second post in the guide. it has a link for the htc drive(HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe), if you need that one.

Anyway, he stills needs the Android fastboot driver. That's different than the adb driver??

Plus - are we talking Windows 8 here??

Are there even working drivers for this on that?

the fastboot driver comes after you use lazypanda. you basically change the boot to 1.12.2222 which then allows fastboot commands.

and no lazypanda will not work on windows 8 from what i'm aware of.

LazyPanda on Windows is rolling the dice.

I've done LazyPanda on Windows and Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is the far superior way.

Yeah. I wasn't asking why you need the fastboot driver in Windows or about LazyPanda on 8, I was asking about any working Windows 8 drivers for anything. ;)

Like facepalm.
