Help Nexus 4 poor battery

Hi, my Nexus 4 is just under two months old and recently I've noticed a decrease in battery life as well as the battery decreasing several percent in one go. 20 minutes ago it was at 20% and now it's at 10% although I have done a reset in that time.

Google ignored the issue when I emailed them about the phone blacking out earlier. I was just told to do a reset

Can you explain more and screenshot your battery usage? Need more info to help

Hi.

I'm doing a full charge now, so will continue to use as normal then when the battery has almost ran out, screenshot and post.

With regards to the percentage, when it's discharging it will go from 85% to 81% instead of 1% each time.

I emailed Google yesterday about the phone blacking out on three or four occasions and mentioned the problem with the battery and they said to do a factory reset but didn't mention anything to do with the battery.

Is there a correct way to charge a smartphone?

In theory, it shouldn't matter how you charge it. It was recently shown that the latest batteries do actually suffer from battery 'memory' but the affect is apparently too small to notice.

Have to admit that I prefer not to do partial charges (i.e. not all the way to 100%) and I do occassionally allow it to run all the way down (until it turns itself off - the old way of addressing battery memory), but there's no proof this has any effect at all.

If your battery has suddenly started playing up, try removing any apps (or updates to apps) that you've recently installed in case they're doing something dodgy. Next, you could check the sync'ing options on all the apps you have that sync (e.g. email, facebook, twitter, news, weather, trains etc etc).

If none of that helps, it could be that there's an issue with the battery .. that would explain the sudden drops in charge and might also explain the black outs. I assume that you'd need to send the phone to google/LG to have the battery replaced.

Thanks Siempre.

I've never been a partial charger, I tend to charge to full then wait until it turns off but sometimes have started the charge when it's on 2-3%. Always to 100% though.

Is it OK to use the phone while it's charging?

Using the phone while it's charging is fine, but you shouldn't let your phone completely die all the time. It's not good for the battery.

I would also recommend going through your apps and disabling some Google apps you don't use that will constantly run otherwise.
I personally noticed a difference in battery after disabling magazines, currents, and both Asian keyboards that run forever...
I have Google now enabled and use it often. Google now is rad. Use it...
The only Gapps I have set to sync is gmail. Nothing else.
I get stellar battery life and use the phone often. I get around 5 hours of screen on before its charge time

Did you do a hard reset of your phone and just have the basic and see how your phone juice behave.

I always have my phone top charge even if it is full.

I had a phone before and after 100 full discharge/charge, it loose some of the capacity. The less you use the battery, the longer your battery will last. But every now and then, do a full discharge.

But the battery outlast me bc I only keep my phone for 8 mths the most.

Sorry to hijack, but which keyboards do you disable in the app list?

This actually is a huge myth. The newest generation of batteries do not lose juice nor do they require a "break in" period. You can have a nexus 4 for 2 years and the battery will last just as long, charge just as fast as the day you unboxed it.

Cheers.

Really? So I should just wait until 5% maybe then charge?

Are you running complete stock or a custom rom/kernel. Also, do you currently have Google Now enabled?

Stock I think, not done anything to the phone since I bought it.

No, what's that?

How do I disable those apps?

My N4 is loosing its battery capacity with a rate of 10%/hour (when the phone is locked!).

The most strange thing is that the Android OS is in the first place with 50% of usage whe the phone is locked (25% when the phone has a moderated usage).

Could anyone help me?

I'm using Android 4.2.2 and I'm with the N4 since last saturday!

Thanks in advance!

I remember I had this issue at a certain time, I noticed my phone got too hot as well when I lost battery with the screen turned off.
Are you rooted? Because if you are, you can easily calibrate your battery, that may solve the issue. You can also flash a new ROM, I flashed one and noticed a dramatic increase in battery life.
And also, if you don't use NFC or GPS or Bluetooth then just set it off. It saves some battery :D

Using a combo of faux kernel and cm 10.1 and a 4g lte hack I've not had a battery screen on time last less than 4 1/2 hours.

All I can say is unsync everything ( so only when you open it will it sync) get greenify and add your questionable apps, undervolt ( most n4's can take at least a -100 mv undervolt across the board with no issues), and leave your display brightness at 50 percent or lower.

Again, I've had absolutely astounding screen on time battery life doing the above and that has been with 4G turned on, with a personal best of 5 hours and 10 minutes of screen on time.

I will say however, I've never not been rooted or running a custom kernel though so I cannot speak for those running stock settings, but I can say with absolute certainty that doing what I'm currently doing, this is the BEST (ABSOLUTELY BEST) battery life I've ever had on a device. The scary thing is I just got this device, and my kernel isn't even set in yet.
