Simple Mobile Phone Number Area Codes

I am an existing simple mobile customer looking to add a new account - phone number.

Since I am in the South Florida area, when I initially joined up they gave me a phone number with area code 786. However, in this tri-county area the typical mobile area codes could be 305, 954, 754, 786, 561...

I would like to obtain an area code of 954 for this new account.

I was told by the SM dealer at the time, the area codes are assigned when they called in, they have no control over it.

Later on when I called SM tech support at one time, I asked about this and they said it's not true. The area code assigned is related to the zip code that the dealer supplied. I asked them which zip code, the zip code of the dealer I walked in to set up the account? Or the zip code of the address I supplied to the dealer (which could be anything I want). They said it's the zip code of my address.

Today I called SM support to make sure, and they support person said it's the zip code of the dealer calling in. NOW, if that were true, wouldn't the same dealer at that location always be assigned the same zip code? Yet when I called up the dealer they said it's sometimes 786 sometimes 954 or 754.

OK I am thoroughly confused:thinking::thinking::thinking:. Is there a rule or not a rule and more importantly, is it possible to make sure I get a specific area code?

Thanks in advance.

See this is an old thread, just replying to say I got opposite information from two different dealer reps (at the same store) on two occasions with new phones for the same carrier. Really hesitant to say whether I believe the one that said that the policy had "changed". I see no reason why I could not get my requested area code the second time time around. I think most of the time one is dealing with the knowledge or willingness of the salesperson or customer service representative of the moment. Company policy is probably secondary in some cases.
