Is there any possibility of just extracting the new modem? The Sprint side of things has already done so (with their MK3 modem obviously, not our MK5) and created a flashable zip, and the person who did it claims that Knox is separate from the actual modem. I have no idea where to look in the update zip or what to do even if I knew where to look, it just seems that the MK5 modem might be the main redeeming factor of this "update" if there are any.

I'm not so sure. There is a thread on XDA containing flashable zip files for the previous two modems for VM SGS3 (the MD7 and the MG2) [MODEM][JB 4.1.2][cwm][zip][md7][mg2] - xda-developers, and then the thread which prompted my question [MODEM][FLASHABLE] MK3 Sprint Modem - xda-developers. It even looks like Sprint users have flashed our MG2 modem and seen improvements on their phones.

Gonna try and build a rooted and slimmed version out of the update that is "sans KNOX"; we'll see how it goes.... I'll post sometime today....

They have done a really awesome job. Sad that knox will sorta affect devs in some way

So has anyone tried to use a sprint rom after the update? Was kinda hoping that since the update we wouldn't have to use the fixes/have better results when they are used.

If one already updated to stock 4.3 will it be safe to flash a sans Knox version.. and by sans Knox do you mean minus the Knox apps or have you found a way to remove the bootloader too?

No but after rooting I removed knox system files an got cwm recovery to stick!

Same here. From what i understand though it is safe to flash other roms including one without Knox you just can't downgrade from the Knox bootloader.

If anybody has a bootable backup of stock 4.3 they could share please let me know... The CWM stock 4.3 backup that i made is not bootable (even with a /data wipe).
dont get it but either way i don't have a working backup to make a ROM from

EDIT: Nevermind I've gotten it to work now.... I re-installed the update over the non working backup. Off to the next step

Got a ROM but having trouble getting it to boot... I Will keep plugging away at it...

alright, dumb question. I've noticed a few people saying they've updated from "stock recovery".

Right now i'm rooted and have CWM installed, running stock 4.1.2 for this phone. Does this mean i won't get the OTA update? If so, I'd prefer to just use the stock recovery to update to 4.3. I'm not worried about maintaining root access or CWM.

In summary, can anyone tell me how to revert to stock recovery and get 4.3 running? Without completely wiping my device?

Yes. If you are on stock, flash this file via Odin and you will revert to stock recovery. It will not wipe apps, settings, or data.

Great help guys, updated my phone last night and I'm loving it! Love the new features 4.3 has for us, might have to give the gear a try too. So far the only thing I've notice is clicking the home button sometimes there is a lag but hardly. Other than that nothing is to complain yet. Thanks for giving the opportunity to update without the wait.

I need a bootable stock backup of MK5 4.3. Somehow the backup I made with philz_touch_5.15.0-d2spr is corrupted and I can't use it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You don't think I could flash a MK5 4.3 stock clockworkmod backup to my SGS3 and goback after flashing a 4.3 custom ROM like SlimBean? My Baseband version is MK5.
