Optimus F3 working on AIO Wireless

Just wanted to post this up since I got sick of T-Metro's atrocious coverage at my job and in other places, and 0.21 Mbps max data speed on HSPA+ at my house.

I walked into the new AIO Wireless store in town, and the friendly woman there looked at my Optimus F3 and said she didn't think it would work due to Metro locking their phones. Sure enough, she put in a test SIM card, and... no go. No signal, network type showed nothing.

Ok, I went home and unlocked the phone using the Carrier Unlock code. Took it back to try again. Now the phone was saying "SIM/RUIM is Perso locked".. ok fine. Went out to my truck, got the unlock codes, and went back in to the store and put the test SIM back in. Entered unlock code, phone was happy with it and rebooted.

Now at this point the girl said that because the phone didn't show an AIO logo in the notification area, that she couldn't promise me it would work. I told her go ahead and set me up with an account and service anyway, since a test call resulted in us hearing an automated message from AIO saying this account ain't in service, and phone was now showing Network as "AIO". I mean, it's a GSM phone with their SIM in it, it operates on their frequencies, it's just a matter of getting in unlocked.

Well I paid for service, we put the new SIM in and entered the new APN settings, and I now have a fully working F3 on AIO (AT&T prepaid).

Just wanted to let everyone know that you CAN use this phone on AIO, even if they have their doubts, but you'll need BOTH the carrier unlock and SIM unlock codes.

I thought carrier & SIM unlock codes were the same thing? The SIM unlock code unlocks the phone to be able to use on other carriers.

I used the unlock code from safeunlockcode.com and it's working perfect on AIO. Had to input AIO's apn settings and it was good to go. Here's how I unlocked it:

  • input the AIO sim card and boot up (if you don't input the sim first, you'll have to unlock it again when you do - at least I did)
  • on the dialer, 2945#*659#
  • choose "network lock"
  • input the code and it'll reboot and you'll be good to go

APN settings are found in settings > tethering & networks > mobile networks > access point names > menu / new apn > then enter the following:

Name: Internet
APN: ndo
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http://mmsc.aiowireless.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.aiowireless.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 150
Authentication type: Not Set
APN type: default,mms,fota,hipri,supl

Hope that helps someone. And AIO is quite a bit better than Tmobile in my area, FWIW.

Not sure, I powered the phone up with no SIM in it and did the carrier unlock, which it accepted. I tried to do the SIM unlock and it said it wasn't locked.

Then I put the aio SIM in and it said "SIM/RUIM is Perso locked" right in the notification shade so, with the aio SIM card still installed, I went back to the hidden menu and tried the SIM unlock option again, and this time it asked for the code. I entered it and the phone rebooted, then came back up with service.

Put in the APN settings and it's been great ever since.
