Help Nexus 10 Can't Connect to PC

Nexus 10 can't connect to any PC. When I first got my Nexus I COULD connect to a PC using an OTG micro to regular [female] USB cable plus a Male to Male USB cable[ this male to male is not OTG-I don't know if there is such a thing].
I have ES File App. I am not ROOTED. I have attempted to connect to 2 different PCs running Win 7 and another system with MacIntosh OSX [I installed to required Android to OSX connect app]. Any help will be appreciated. I am a total Android beginner.

Have you tried to connect the nexus to the pcs using the charging cable ?? I find the otg cables can be a little bit flakey sometimes.

1. I don't know what has changed between when I got the unit and now-that may effect the ability to connect. I have added many apps.
2. I will try the charging cable-I didn't know that would work. Certainly if it doesn't work, I rules out cable problem being the cause of non-connection.

THANKS FOR SUGGESTION

I just tried using the cable that came with the charger. It WORKS.
I have several micro USB to full female USB adapters that are OTG. I have used them before to connect. I was using a Male to Male USB 2.0 cable between the OTG adapter and the PCs. This male to male USB MUST be the problem. I don't know if I used this particular Male to Male cable with a OTG Adapter before when I could connect. I have lots of different USB cables.
PROBLEM SOLVED Thanks to All. :)

Isn't There a Software App that Helps Connecting Media Source TO Nexus 10?
I forgot the name.
It is supposed to be used with a Micro/Regular USB 2.0 connector OTG cable to permit moving files to/from the Nexus to/from a PC or maybe another devices such as an external HDD.

Anyone recall the App Name? Anyone other than myself tried to use it?
I definitely do remember it worked OK. It might solve the non-connection problem.
The app should not be needed.

Use the original charge cable that came with the Nexus 10.

Wish I could remember app name.

Clarification:
I did not need to use an app to connect to PC.
I used this un-named app to connect to a SD memory card in a SD reader that had a USB connector. I used an OTG micro>standrd USB cable.
I also used this app to connect to a USB FLASH MEMORY. The app advertised as connecting to MEDIA as I recall.
It was not a free app.

I managed to copy a load of music over but am having real problems copying pictures and video. My windows 8.1 file manager keeps hanging, and I have to reset the usb connection to the Nexus 10. I bought this thing after chucking an iPad in the bin because it was so difficult to copy content onto it; now I find I'm having the same problems with an Android tablet. Not happy. The absence of a file manager just rubs salt into the wound. Stupid.
