Data counter

Which data counter are you using? The one bundled with the phone? It's pretty hard to tell retrospectively as far as I know.

Your best bet would be to check the counter against what your carrier says, there will most likely always be a little bit of difference, but I've found the stock android data counter relatively reliable.

However, if you're looking for a 3rd Party app, 3G Watchdog and Onavo are both pretty good alternatives

What any data counter on your phone says doesn't matter. I have read and heard a number of stories of people using data counters (esp. overseas) who come back to huge bills for exceeding a data limit cap despite what the phone says. And the carrier has always responded that their count matters and not what your phone's app says. Even though in more than one case, they were using the carrier's app to count data.
