Hmmmm.... where did you pre order?

with my carrier (Rogers)

Meh.... I won't be bothering. Can't really justify the equivalent of $700 or whatever it's going to be anyway. BTW I had a cheap Casio watch that could monitor my heart rate years ago, a gimmick IMO. I know people with S4s, and they just never use the things like NFC or whatever.

i'm upgrading from an S3 and i do use the NFC, heart rate monitor isn't really usefull for me, the usb 3.0 spec yes (should move files faster), 16m camera is an upgrade too (4k video no use yet) water/dust resistant (IP67) is not a must but a worthy "upgrade"

S3 owner here, rooted running modded stock rom. I passed on the S4 after reports it was bogged down by it's large rom with too many features. It also felt less well constructed than my S3. I bought a Note 3 and sold it a week later. THAT is the cheapest feeling device I have ever held in my hand.

This S5 looks like a smaller Note 3, making me think it will feel as cheap as the Note 3. I'll reserve judgment till I can hold/use one, but I think Samsung peaked with the S3 and everything since hasn't really impressed.

I have never owned a smartphone more than a year till this S3. I pre-ordered it and I knew it would be my phone for long before it could be ordered. It lived up to all the hype. Nothing has excited me since. If LG would put removable batteries/sd cards in their G phones instead of just their Pro phablets, I'd probably have one already.

Do you think most people are saying they won't be getting it because they don't have an upgrade? Or can't justify spending the $$$ to buy it outright? Or because it TRULY is not enough of an upgrade? I usually buy the latest because I have enough upgrades on our account to do so.... even though I barely use all of the features it may have. I may grab a Note 3 and then a Note 4 this fall... just to play with them.... after I get the S5.

Think you're the first to say that. The S4 is better constructed, looks and feels less like plastic.

Galaxy S4 feels better because it's thinner and has a slightly smaller profile.

Otherwise the design and construction are very similar so to complain about the Galaxy S4 being less well built is just bizarre.

Also the Galaxy S4 doesn't have the horrible rounded glass on the front, I hated that, well there were allot of things I hated about the Galaxy S3 to be fair, not my favorite phone.

I wanted 3gn of ram people say ohh noes you dont need that much... That's a lie... I was using so much ram on the s3 that it starts lagging.

It's not a lie at all, unless your running multiple apps you will not use 2GB of memory, most phones still only have 1GB so apps are not really designed to use allot of memory.

If you have a phone with 2GB of memory the lag is nothing to do with memory

I'm torn. I was absolutely going to pick up the Sony Xperia Z2. Much prettier and classier looking than the S5 IMO. My motivation for this was the 4K video capability which the S5 also has.

However in listening to the some of the 4K videos posted from the Mobile Congress, the audio on the Z2 is pretty bad. The S5's audio seems better.

So I'm not sure if I'll bite the 'ugly bullet' and get the S5 or still give Z2 a shot. It's such a damn pretty phone. Of course there are still no announcements as to what, if any, U.S. carrier the Sony would come out on.

I'm really thinking about it, either that or the Note 3.

My USB port on the bottom of my phone is starting to act a bit funky where if I don't connect the cable just perfectly the data connection for my computer won't work. Truth be told, I wasn't very nice to the USB port so that may be something that contributed to the degradation of the port.

So, with that said... I could get my S4 replaced under my carrier's warranty but that would mean a $200 charge for the deductible and the fact that I'd be getting a refurbished device. I could get a new device under AT&T Next and keep the S4 as the backup device in case the shit hits the fan.

I've stopped using the USB for data transfer, and have been using Airdroid exclusively. You might want to give it a try.

I thought you are very happy with G2. What's wrong with that now?

Hmmmm, Honestly as a die hard Nexus Device user and someone who has also owned all the Galaxy S Devices, I have to say its at most, a Maybe! I'm at a time in my life when I really do need a kick a## camera on my phone and this looks to have that on board. However from a nerdy spec prospective, this phone IMO isn't the bump we were all hoping for. But you have to look from another prospective, a lot of S3 owners are coming up on contract and if they like this Sammy Eco system they will be buying in no matter what, and jeez are there a ton of S3 owners out there.

For me I'd have to say I dig the new Gear, and might end up giving them both a look, but am I sitting here waiting for them to drop impatiently? No, not Really!

I'm going to be upgrading in mid April. That is when my contract expires. My current phone is a Motorola Droid Bionic which is long in the tooth.

I really like the Motorola Droid Maxx. But the non-replaceable battery is a no-go for me.

The specs of the Galaxy S5 are very appealing. I would prefer if it were just a bit smaller. But I think I should be able to carry it in my front jeans pocket. If not, I'll look at something else.

I just bought an S4 2 months ago, and I'm having to sell it and go back to an S3. The wolfson audio chip was a beast for quality, and the S3 is still awesome on battery life and no slouch. I don't really play super intense games that need the latest hardware, so the S5 just doesn't seem that appealing.

I was hopeful that it was going to be completely redesigned and have enough wow to warrant an upgrade, but looks as though Samsung couldn't afford a new drawing board, so they stuck with minimally increasing screen size, adding another useless gimmicky feature, and trying to appeal to the masses with Glam style.

Yes it's now water and dust proof to some degree, and they have boosted the camera somewhat, but I don't think that will be enough to convince people to upgrade from even an S3.

Overall, I know Samsung could have done a lot better. Whoever is making their design decisions needs to be replaced!!
