Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] [Request] Attempt To Root 4.3

So with the new update, everyone I've talked to is having trouble with rooting. I have an odd predicament where I was using Odin v3.0.9 to flash CWMR and it gave me all the green lights (ie "Added!" message, gave me a pass, rebooted my phone etc) but when I tried entering recovery mode, it brought me to the stock Android Utility 3e instead of CWMR. My MTP connection is very shaky too, sometimes it will charge, but not mount on my Windows 7 Desktop. Connecting as a camera works normally, but not MTP. Also a few months back, my GS3 bricked my Sandisk MicroSD and the whole slot itself, so if I was going to flash ROMs, they would have to be sideloaded. Does anyone have any tips/ideas to what might be my issue? Please and thank you in advance! :p

TWRP was updated a while back to fix the issue with 4.4 ROMs. I've used it to install Number #2, CM10, CM11, SlimBean, SlimKat, Gummy, and I still have working backups of most of those, ready to flash. :)

The more important thing is to try installing a recovery with Odin 3.04. I've tried newer versions of Odin, but they didn't always work. The choice of recovery is up to you, but you can't go wrong with either. Just make sure that when you reboot your phone, you access the recovery BEFORE accessing your stock ROM.

Also, you should download the latest version of SuperSu.zip and place it in your internal storage. That way you can flash the zip and root right after accessing recovery.

Here's the instructions from OUDHS:

As for the MTP issue, I can't help you there. Perhaps Shabby or one of the more veteran posters/developers in this forum can help you out. I'm more of a lurker. :D

Thanks for the information, man! I'm not new to rooting/flashing, but I've been away from the scene for awhile. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it works out!

EDIT: Still didn't work, but thanks for trying!

What exactly is not working? If you get the Success message, then you pull the battery out and then go right in to recovery, it will work. Can you explain a little more?

I didn't pull battery after success message, it booted fully and then I tried entering recovery mode, but it was still the stock recovery

EDIT: The battery pull got me into the recovery I needed :)

Thanks you guys! Now it's time to try to sideload roms/gapps/superuser haha.

Happens pretty often. Glad you got it working.

Ahh, I'm still having some trouble. I definitely tripped the Knox Counter (which is no big deal, seeing as my warranty was up long ago) however I keep getting annoying notifications that an application was trying to attain root access. I can't uninstall it or hide notifications, and won't even let Root Checker Basic work, lol.

On to problem number two, in the past my Sandisk MicroSD corrupted my GS3's MicroSD slot so I have no access to External Storage and when I connect my phone to my computer via USB cable and try to mount storage as MTP, it's not recognized and I can't access any files. That's a big reason why I'm scared to factory restore/wipe caches because if I can't sideload/use adb/sdk tools then I'm left with a paperweight until I re-flash stock ROM via Odin.

If anyone has any suggestions, it'd be lifesaving!

EDIT: I got adb working and CM11 is running smooth as anything :D

Feel free to close the thread and thank you to all of you!

I am having the same problem. Was on stock 4.3 and used Odin to flash cwm recovery (that works), booted into recovery and flashed SU and when I boot up I get a KNOX warning that they blocked SU from working. My question is, can I just flash a non-knox Rom from cwm and get super user access or or do I need SU to be fully rooted and flash roms?
