HTC M8 accessories (discussion, reviews) -Read first post for review links!

As w/the M7,the M8 is capable of QI Wireless Charging,w/an aftermarket receiver tag (TYPE B) & your choice of QI Charging dock.

Got a TYPE B tag on the way:

1
Type B Micro USB Qi Wireless Universal Charger Pad Receiver Coil for Smartphone | eBay

& this case to hide it (THX SolApathy):

Amazon.com: SUPCASE All New HTC One M8 Case - Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Protective Case for HTC One 2014 (Black/Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

ETA is 4/23/14,I'll post charge times w/this,expecting something in the 5 hr range for full charge, typical for wireless charging.

Hi! I am new at this and have a couple of rookie questions: Whats the differnece between the typ A and type B?

Also, does every charger pad work with these or is it special pads for different recievers?

What kind of charger pad do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS greverif!

For this discussion only,Type A & B refer to the orientation of the USB Charging Port on the phone itself.Technically, one will work w/the other, but you'd have to twist the cord on the receiver tag,as it actually makes a difference which side is facing up (away) from the phone for charging to occur.

Any QI charging pad/dock will work, but,as w/anything else, some are better than others. For the most part, steer clear of the no-name chargers.

Another criteria that's important to a lot of people is the wall plug portion of the charger.

One area in particular is a big disappointment to most,as the majority of the better chargers have a proprietary charger vs a USB connectable charger. So I'll break it down to these two sub-categories:

Proprietary powered:

TYLT Vu Wireless Charger | T-Mobile
You can get this anywhere, but,I listed the T-MOBILE site for the price savings of 25% when the discount code SPRING 2014 is applied at checkout.

Nokia Fatboy Black Wireless Charging Pillow accessories from AT&T
Again,I listed this particular site for the cost savings.

JBL Powerup Bluetooth Wireless Charging Speaker with NFC Pairing Technology | eBay
^^^^
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PRICE & a trustworthy seller, bought lots of items from DAILY STEALS.

I have all three of the above & can attest that each work exceptionally well.

USB Powered:

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_wireless_charger

Zens Qi Wireless Charging Pad USB - Black :: MobileFun.com

Haven't personally used either of these, but, have heard they're among the better chargers available.

Many thanks for a long and great answer with lots of help! Byt since I have the One m8 I guess its easier to choose the Type B version of the reciever then?

Urban Armor: just released today for the M8. I have to say these look like pretty sweet rugged cases that are available in 5 colors. Check out the 2 links below

Urban Armor preview

Urban Armor website

I still haven't bought a case but after reviewing these I do believe I will be ordering the UAG Maverick tomorrow.I've always used an otterbox but this UAG looks promising and well made.I want good protection for drops since I work on concrete floors all day long.A case with a good grip is also nice,so this looks like the first one I'll be trying.

Just got the GEAR2 Gold Brown in about an hour ago:

Samsung Gear 2 Gold Brown

Compatibility is suprisingly well, basically all the hardware functions work, just no access to the SAMSUNG Apps,as the store doesn't recognize non-SAMSUNG devices.

There's not much discussion on the GEAR2/FIT or the GALAXY GEAR here @ A/F for that matter.

For those interested in the subject, there's a bit more activity @ XDA-DEVELOPERS & SMARTWATCH FANS:

The receiver tag that I ordered for wireless charging came in today:

Universal Qi Wireless Charging Receiver Film for Micro USB of All Android Mobile | eBay

Initial charge time is pretty decent for 3rd party rigging such as this, went from 70% to 95% in 1.5 hrs.

That may sound slow, but,I'm guessing a full charge (from less than 15% to 100%) will translate to a better time than the projected max time of 6 hrs,as the charge rate seems to decrease at around the 85%-90% range.

The 1st 30 minutes of charging netted a 10% gain, which is actually better than I've seen on my NOTE 3/G2/G-FLEX.

The case felt a bit warm, but, accordinng to the app GSAM BATTERY MONITOR,temperature never exceeded 94

Wireless charging hasn't ever been praised for its quick charge time, on any phone, whether built-in, by special covers (SAMSUNG), or the tag design/method.

I only charge in the evening/overnight, so the long charging times aren't an issue.
Mainly, its a convenience. I've got wireless charging docks in several locations throughout the house. I can drop my phone in virtually any room in the house & forget about it until morning.

Plus, the convenience of having nightstand wireless charging is sweet, no fumbling for a cord when you're half-asleep.

I am having a hard time finding a simple soft gel NON SLIP case. I don't want something big and boxy, I like thin. So far I have bought two ebay $8 cases claiming to be "soft gel". The first was high gloss black and slippery. The second was clear frosted gel and the frosted backing was just as slippery as the glossy black.

My old phone had a simple flat black gel case that was sticky. That is what I want- difficult to get out of my pocket sticky. I'm thinking about getting one of these next but afraid they will be just as slippery:

Spigen Slim Armor (says it has "Non Slip SF Coated" in the title, whatever that is)

or

SUP Case (says it has "excellent anti-scratch/anti-slip capability")

I ordered my Urban Armor Gear case last Friday..It still hasn't even been shipped!!!Just letting everyone know if you order a case directly from them you may be waiting for a long time to receive it!!I would suggest ordering it from a second party site...I emailed them with no response...I did get in contact with them on Facebook and they have offered to ship me a second free case if mine isn't shipped out sometime today!!

I've been through a lot of phones the past couple of years, & even more so, the accessories for them.
As strange as it may seem, as you have suggested, I've had faster shipping from 3rd parties, most notably AMAZON,or, sellers whose orders are fulfilled by AMAZON.
I've found that the ship dates account for the unexpected delays, etc.... & actually show up, for the most part, 2-3 days before ETA.

I have the spigen clear capsule one and it is excellent. When i take it from my pocket it drags the packet of chewing gum i keep there as well, It is a great case and i think would meet your needs. Good luck.

Just received my Xtreme Guard full body 2 pack (cost me 3$ shipped) and I couldn't be happier both the body and screen are cut precisely right.. I don't recommend the screen protector as it's by no means top of the line however it does do it's job.

The back protector is amazing - adds grip and protection and lets you still show off the phone.

Just another layer between my double dip/case mate naked/otter box defender to prevent dust from scratching the metal on this baby..

Have a Supcase Unicorn Beetle. Frost /Clear.
Very good quality and not bulky at all. Looks great, I can see thru the back. Nice style name design.

I have this case as well. I love everything about it except for one issue.

With the case on I can not take decent pictures with the flash. The case seems to reflect light from the flash and over exposes the top of the picture.

I have the spigen clear case and had the same problem when taking pictures using the flash. The light seems to travel through the clear plastic and spills over the camera lens. The spigen is slightly different in that it has separate cut outs for the flash and the lens but i got round this by taking a black felt tip pen and drawing round the inside edge of both cut outs. Now your case cut out is different but it may be worth trying the same thing as this may stop the light carrying through the clear plastic like fibre optics. Good luck.

Great idea Doc. The SUP Case actually has separate cutouts for lens vs flash too. I'll have to try that when I get home.

Found something on eBay that says it has "Anti-Slip... Soft Touch Rubber... Grip Dotted Gel". While it is better than the first two cases and I will be keeping this case, it is not truly as "sticky" as I had hoped.
