I rooted my phone and tried install TWRP, but on reboot, I got nothing by Download Mode (ODIN)

My wife has a Mac so I tried Kies, but that requires a recovery mode.

On my Ubuntu, I have Heimdall-frontend but it keeps saying that I am missing "firmware.xml" and no other options present it self.

What am I missing?

You are missing the "recovery.img" ,I have the same issue, and the cause of this was that you flashed twrp onto your phone. Which bring the concept that the only reason your phone didn't work with twrp is because your boot loader is locked... sadly there's nothing that we can do about this issue. But there is a way around it and its by using safestrap or safeztrap... but with safestrap you can only install ROMs with the same version as yours and it has to have aroma.. I think...

And I just found a way .. to get it back... if you need it(stock recovery)
How do you get stock recovery back? I tried to install TWRP and am stuck in downloading mode.

I did not realize that there are many differences in the various flavors of S4. I have an unlocked refurb ATT that is running 4.4.2 and I have no idea what firmware version it has.

I was able to root using towelroot if that provides any clues.
