Unlimited minutes on $35 plan?

I am on the $45 plan (because I need more than 300 minutes). I have received no such text.

Hmm.. went into my account to check the plan and next month it's automatically changing my plan to unlimited talk, text, and data and lists it as a promo plan. I've been with virgin mobile for almost 4 years now, maybe they are doing that for long time customers?

Virgin Mobile just sent me a text saying they increased my minutes to unlimited for the $35 plan that I'm on. Did anyone else get this?

I haven't. I'm a long time customer too and am on the $35-300 minute plan as well...I saw someone else post earlier on VM's Facebook page asking the same question and added my 2 cents worth, but they haven't answered my question yet...But good for you, glad they did that for you...May I ask when your plan is due for renewal?...Mine is the 3rd of every month

My renewal date is tomorrow now that I think about it. Maybe you'll also get a text on the day before?

VM does have a newer $35 plan with unlimited talk, text and data... but only 250MB of high speed data. I'd double check your data plan options just in case they switched you to that:

Prepaid Cell Phone Plans | Virgin Mobile USA

VM claims that they won't change your plan, unless you tell them too. But, I agree we should all check that!

I received that message last week. Here is the exact page that the link in text leads to:

Great news for you! We’ve updated your plan. As of your next monthly payment date, your $35/mo plan will automatically include UNLIMITED voice minutes. There is nothing for you to do and nothing else has changed. You will be able to keep this exclusive* new plan as long as you don’t change your plan or device type, or allow your account to cancel. Please note, you will continue to receive 2.5GB of high-speed 3G/4G data and unlimited texts. Thank you for being a Virgin Mobile customer.

*This is an exclusive, non-transferable offer not available in stores or online.

You lose it if you change phones, so I wonder what plan you go to if you change phones.

Well I don't think they mean that you lose it if you change phones, but rather you lose it if you change as they say "device type" so like a dumb phone to a smart phone. I could be wrong on that though.

That could be, but it's poor wording, because all the phones on the $35 plan are smartphones now, and have been for quite awhile Unless they mean switching from Android to Ios. I'll have to check when I get a chance.

This is the email response I got from Virgin when I asked about changing devices:

"s you do not switch it to a different plan. Only you can switch it and it depends to you if you want to keep your unlimited plan for $35 per month, or if you want to get a different one. "By changing your device, it means exactly what you said. You can swap phones as long as the one you are swapping to is the same brand and kind as the one you have now. otherwise this plan will become unavailable for future months."

So, basically, in order to keep this plan, and change phones, you would have to get the exact same model. I'm waiting for them to answer my question about what plan you would go to if you change to a different phone. If you are forced onto one of their new plans, I think I will be leaving Virgin when it's time for a new phone.

Yep me too, the new plans don't have enough data for me without going to a much higher price, then you might as well go to a postpaid carrier, the actual sprint deal looks really good right now.

It looks like this is a very underhanded way that Virgin is forcing people off their current plans. Sure, it seems at first like they are rewarding you with unlimited minutes, but most people will only benefit for a short amount of time. Here is what their response was to my inquiry about what plan you will go to if you change phones. My days with Virgin are now numbered. I have to start comparing other carriers.

"If you still want to swap your device to a different model, then you will need to change your plan. We do have a new plan that is for the same price that you are currently paying. The only difference is that it will give you unlimited minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data, but it will have the data speed reduced once you reach 250MB."

I don't know. Virgin Mobile customer service reps from my past experience have no idea what they are talking about. One way to find out if we can switch or not would be to try switching to a different phone and seeing what options come up in plans. Obviously don't go through with the switch, but just an idea if anyone has a spare Virgin phone lying around.

I know, I don't automatically trust anything I'm told by any CS rep at any company, especially VM, but they've now posted the same answer to this on their FB page, so it seems likely. I've already started looking around. So far I'm leaning towards Target's Brightspot. They have a similar $35 plan to the "old" VM $35 plan, plus you get a $25 Target gift card every 6 months, so if you shop at Target, it works out to a shade under $31/month. They run on T-Mobile, and you can bring any unlocked GSM phone.

Damn, that sucks haha. Do you mind linking me to the FB post they made about it? I took a look at the Brightspot plan, but no data on their $35 plan! :(
