HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

So if anyone remembers.. I was having some major battery drain issues...

I managed to fix those by doing a factory reset. Worked like a charm, and I 12 hours of fairly heavy use (pry upwards of 100 txts, quite a bit of data and downloads, and close to 2 hours of talk). Anyone having battery trouble might wanna try this... Worked like a charm for me!

Caddy, as always, you da man!
....da caddyman!

...annnnnd back to studying for finals... JOY

Okay I am a bit of a nub when it comes to Androids, but. I put the ZIP 2.1 on my Eris. ( I love it by the way )
And now I hear there is a newer version. Soo... do I just drag and drop the new ZIP onto the SD card with the old ZIP still on? Will that brick my Eris? Or do I use a new SD card in general. Please help me out. I'm anxious!!!
Thank you.

upgrade from 2.1v2 OS to v3 without wiping and install went fine. The only bummer is I forgot to make a list of apps I installed. Oh well.

V2 was actually very usable but the UI lagged like with the 1.5 OS. when I received an incoming call the screen would light up and nothing would happen for 4-5 seconds. literally. I timed it.

Firmware is great.
Phone is slow no matter the firmware. Verizon or HTC should start a trade in program so we at least get a discount on an upgrade cause this phone is crap. too bad i'm stuck for the next 18 months with it. =\

Just a question... Currently I'm running v2 of the leak with no issues at all. No lag, force closing, freezing, etc. Only thing I notice on it is the battery drain. Is v3 much better in that department? I've been hesitant to flash the new version just for slight battery improvements and risk a few of these bugs people are experiencing. Thoughts?

Hey Guys, long time reader but I've never posted before. I have to admit so far V3 has been way better. A buddy at work has V2 and we did a comparison and V3 did move a little bit quicker. I've had some random apps crash here and there but they also did crash on 1.5. We all can agree that this phone is not a power house but its small, extremely light, decent camera and a good enough screen.

I can give you some advice..it's what I did. My new every two isn't available until November of next year. I was stuck with the Blackberry Storm2. At first I thought it was a great phone and then I realized it was a hunk of crap. I kept the phone in mint condition and put it on ebay. I got $300 for it! I took that $300 and bought myself an Eris for exactly $300 on ebay. It has a clean ESN and it was sealed and I had no problems activating it. If your phone is in good conditoin you can get around $200-250 for it on ebay. Take that money and put it towards and Incredible. I do this phone shuffle all the time but I am happy with the Eris and I LOVE Android!

Right, but that's $300 after the $200 or so for an Incredible. Still turns out to be pretty darn expensive.

For me it seemed like 1.5 had more frequent app crashes. v3 seems a bit snappier than v2 but the speed could just be less cruft after the firmware reset.
I completely agree that it is small, light, and the camera is superior to the droid and iphone sensors[wife has moto droid, my previous phone was the iphone 3G]. Some times the touch typing is just too small on the eris though. The iphone was perfect in that regard.

i'm in the same for new every 2. Not sure I could justify this though as the incredible is $500~ without contract. i'd rather put that money toward something else like a new laptop. :)

Hey guys, sorry in advance for posting this, I know it's been mentioned here or on xda but I did searches and can't find it............

Wasn't there a fix or something for the camera staying awake after using it?

Menu>Settings>about phone>battery>what's using the battery

Camera 96%

I've searched for eris camera bug, eris camera fix, eris camera bug fix, eris camera awake, eris camera not closing and can't find it.

Anyone remember or know where it's at?

Thank you soo much!

Try going to Menu>Settings>Applications>Running services

If the camera shows up there, touch it and it should force close. If it's not there, use a task killer of some kind to force close it.

Thanks for this eak....works awesome...much faster, prettier etc. Tons of new features.

Quick question.....when I make calls on this version the display does not shut off...anyone else experiencing this or is it just me.

And if you're on the fence about installing this just jump in. You'll love it.:D

I'm having different phone issues, like my signal drops horribly when I use the phone, and I keep hearing a loud noise, it almost sounds like a second of speaker feedback. Once the phone re booted by itself. I've tried *228 options 1 & 2 and still get random issues.

Yeah, never showed up in running services. I went into manage applications and did a force stop but no help. I did that stuff before I posted, any other ideas? I know I saw something on this somewhere.......

I know someone with an Eris who wants 2.1 because of all the input lag that 1.5 apparently has.. but I doubt he will want to troubleshoot/deal with any bugs or problems that may arise.. Of course I have no problem helping him but i'm not always around for that. He wants me to put the 2.1 leak on his phone only if I think that he won't have any problems. So my question to you all is: Is upgrading to 2.1V3 REALLY worth it over the stock 1.5? I know it has some bugs, but how much do the positives outweigh the negatives by?

Also, if we do go through with this, will he be able to recieve the official OTA when it releases, without having to reflash back to 1.5?

Well after messing with it a bit I can see:

Images work in gmail now
Apps that link to the web (urbanspoon) work now
Google Voice calls work properly again

50% without signal is still there (airplane mode still "fixes" it)

Hiya--been too busy at work to check the forums. No time to update to V3--but in V2, i've been ignoring the 50% w/o signal msg and I've noticed it hasn't been a problem with battery drain. (I haven't been doing the airplane mode trick at all.) I also noticed that it would correct itself after awhile on its own. I'd check a day or two after restarting the phone and it wouldn't ben 50% w/o signal anymore. Just thought I'd share this.

Thanks. I have seen a couple of people reporting the same thing on the V3 leak as well. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to the next time I need to restart my phone.

I forgot to do the airplane mode trick today after I left school and turned my phone on. By the time I got home (about 35 minutes later), my battery had gone down 11%. My cell standby time was 72%.

I am really itching to upgrade to this but I'm still hesitant. I was hoping someone could confirm the following:

1) We'll be able to update to the official release when it comes out.
2) If need be, we can reflash back to 1.5

Thoughts?

Answers,

1. Right now the general belief is that you should be able to update via the OTA update, But if not it will still be able to be updated by downloading the update and manually installing like the leaks.

2. Unless you have rooted your phone there is currently no way to revert back to 1.5 unless HTC or Verizon have a way of doing it for you.
