Should I switch from Verizon to Sprint

I've been a Verizon customer for a very long time. I'm seeing that if I switch my 5 lines and 15 GB of shared data over to Sprint I would be saving $120/month for 14 mos and then it would be $20/mo cheaper than what I'm paying now, and that's including an extra 5 GB more than what I currently have. Hard not to think about the switch for that kind of $$$. Does Verizon even care that they are the most expensive cell provider around?

Verizon does also have the best nationwide coverage, so maybe there's a reason they're more expensive. ;)

Have you verified to make sure that Sprint has solid coverage where you are? You could also try one of the Sprint prepaid MVNOs for a month to see if their service suits you. Edit: doh, probably not really a valid option with CDMA - sorry! :thumbsupdroid:

Saving $1,680 in just over a year would be enough to get me to switch :), but as codesplice mentioned you need to make sure Sprint has good coverage first.

Sprint coverage map for a general idea of your area:

If you know anyone using Sprint you can also ask them how good coverage is since those maps aren't always accurate.

20 year plus VZW here, and yes, I have been tempted to go elsewhere every time I see a sprint advert on TV, or a T-Mobile advert....

but, after a spreadsheet number crunch is done, after six months usually the numbers don't work anymore..... and the loss of coverage I am not willing to tolerate.

even here where only grass and weeds grow, I can get 30 mbps on Verizon IF in a 4g area... which I am not at home.... sometimes I see 4g, but it is after I leave the house and get on a highway somewhere...

I'm on a 3gb / month plan and 4 of us in the house have never maxed it out. We use WiFi off of my ADSL service.

I just left Sprint yesterday. I think it all depends on where you are. Sprint in Oakland, CA, where I live, doesn't have the best network. I was losing calls just driving around the city daily. I was with Sprint for 16 years.

The prices on Sprint are cheaper, certainly. And they are the only carrier besides T-Mobile offering unlimited data. So if you are a heavy data user Sprint may work for you, but only if you have good coverage in your area. I found that having unlimited data didn't make sense if I couldn't use it in certain spots in an urban area, the speeds were slow, and I was using WiFi most of the time because of those reasons.

Both my husband and I never go over 2gb of data in a month so the 3gb will likely more than cover us on Verizon. With Verizon Edge, the discount per line helps and I think that we are getting a decent deal for our 2 Samsung Galaxy Note 4s with service.

My work phone for the past 10 months has had Verizon so I could compare networks.

So I am paying a bit more but I would rather avoid dropped calls and I would rather have access to fast data than go cheap and live without.

Who knows? Maybe we will regret our decision. Time will tell. At least we don't have a contract and our phones will work on other networks so leaving won't be complicated if we grow to dislike Verizon.

All of these carriers have issues. Pick your poison.

yes, dear ole muther VerWicked has made it no fun to stay with them nowadays...
VZW is now trying very hard to force the 5.0 DnGrade onto my S5 every time I try to use WiFi.... so, I moved the WiFi icon off the Notification bar so it can't be accidentally used.
I have also configured MacroDroid to always turn Wifi OFF regardless if the phone is locked or unlocked... for all intents and purposes, my S5 no longer has WiFi capabilities.... and it is all because of VZW trying to force that POS 5.0 to its' users regardless of our wishes...

as I don't use social apps or interactive games, I never use more than about 1 gB/month.
My daughter and I are on the Family Share plan with 3 gB/month available and we have yet to even get close to 2 gB used per month. Her phone is a Windows gadget so VZW can't screw with it... the daughter uses WiFi all the time w/o worrying about her phone being messed up with LolliFlop.

I have no idea what MacroDroid and not upgrading to Lollipop have to do with deciding to switch to Sprint or not.

Unless you want a friendlier carrier without rooting restrictions beyond that from the phone manufacturer and far less bloatware, making the Lollipop update pleasant and MacroDroid unnecessary. Especially if you get a Nexus or an HTC and not a Samsung.

If you care about such things as a better Android experience and Sprint has the coverage you need, go for it OP.

PS - too bad you're on Verizon AZ, I feel sorry for you believing that Lollipop is a flop. Your complaints are with Verizon and Samsung, not Android. Maybe you'll remember that before slagging Android next time. :)

I have not slagged Lollipop on a different carrier, it is Verizon's failed release of it that I am against... I can edit out the 'off sprint' stuff if you like. I've seen Lollipop on a VZW S5 in the retail stores, no thanks.
