Help HTC One X - Unable to connect to Computer as Storage

I am not too sure if the OP got his/her problem sorted out but I have/had same problem. In the past, as soon as I connect it to the laptop using microUSB, it will ask me if I want to mount the SD card, now after a HUGE OTA update, it has installed HTC Sync manager which is a royal piece of crap. HTC forced me to install it as I won't get option to mount SD, even now it doesn't but someone who mentioned holding the start button down for 10 seconds, did a trick. At the same time, the laptop keeps telling me that MTP driver failed to install.

I wonder when HTC sync manager (which most likely contains the driver) is already installed, why on the earth, I keep getting this error??

Since then even AirDroid stopped working. Navigating to a folder of choice takes forever and sometimes even after clicking 'Upload' button like OCD person, the dialog box never appears.
I tried similar other programs like SnapPea or Android Sync Manager. None of them worked. SnapPea looks great but it never uploads the video. Andoird Sync Manager connection is not at all stable. I am not too sure if there is a problem with these programs or the HTC One X hardware configuration.

So at the moment, I will be using this 10 second press trick, as long as it works but if anybody knows generic drivers for this MTP thing, it will be great.
Just to note, my Motorola Xoom works like charm, with cable as well as AirDroid and Motorola gives generic drivers for Xoom..

my response from HTC;

My name is Jonathan and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with not being able to set the connection type on your phone since updating to Jelly Bean.

I apologise but the Jelly Bean update was designed by Google automatically set the connection type dependent on what function the user was try to use, so there are no options to set the connection type.

I am sorry if this has meant that you are no longer able to connect your device to your car stereo, but this is a feature of the update, and cannot be changed at present. I will forward your feedback on to our developers to look at for future updates.

As a software developer, I am fully aware of using the word "feature".

What a load of shit.

@m3man,

Thanks for the clarification. I wonder when HTC sells so many phones, why they can not afford to maintain a forum by themselves and appoint some smart technical guys to address the issues. I previously had HTC Sensation XL and faced so many problems and nobody to help.

With HTC Sync Manager, please forward feedback that it is load of crap (use better expletive than this if you can). It does have a potential, take a look at SnapPea. I would rather use SnapPea than HTC Sync Manager, its just a bloatware and doesn't do a damn job. Why a company would force loyal users with such crap. If it continues, I will go away from HTC for sure. Just take a look at Samsung, they offer so many features as opposed to HTC. Is HTC such small company that they can not spend money for attracting users (than just fragmenting Android market even more and losing sales themselves in terms of updates and on..) I know you guys do not control updates by the carriers but there is rest of the world than North America... (I am in the US but bought phone in India because I am fed up with US carrier policies).

I can rant truckloads but I appreciate your response and understanding user frustration. I am sure you will try your level best to convey the message. Thanks again.

If you want to convey your frustration, best off doing it yourself! HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, Tablets and click on 'support'.

I can't wait to get an iphone 5!!!!!

They are so pathetic that after I select HTC One X from at&t, it spits out an error that page did not find. Surely, I will think of other companies for my next phone. Motorola and HTC are certainly out.

You may want to go for iPhone 4S instead. My brother works with Apple and he suggested DW to go for iPhone 4S instead of 5. Since I am not interested, we did not discuss more and DW doesn't care as long as it works.

This worked for me people:

When I connect my HTC One X via USB to my PC, I can see my Android storage only when my phone is connected in internet pass-through mode. I set the mode by Settings > More > Mobile network sharing > USB Network setting. If I select any other option I am unable to see my drives on phone.

Have you tried another cable?
this worked for me, also try to disable
Have you installed the HTC sync manager application? When I tried to hook my phone up to my Windows PC, it wouldn't recognize the phone until after I had installed the HTC sync manager app, leading me to believe that when you install the application, it gives you the drivers to recognize the phone.

You can get it here:HTC Sync Manager
This Worked for me. You might also want try to use another usb cable.

my device is not htc but i solved a problem like this one.
when your device shows the "usb charge only notification", drag the notification down.
it will say something like "touch to enter usb connection settings".
and there you will see that the "usb charge only" is ticked.
all you have to do is tick the "data connection option" or whatever...
problem solved.
