Help Bluetooth music intermittently cuts out

My issue lately has been random pausing. The weird thing is that it only happens when I am sitting at my desk; if I am listening to something as I drive, I don't have the issue. Also, it only seems to happen with PocketCasts; I decided to start listening to an audiobook on Audible and it played without any issues. The strange thing is that the files stored for both apps are on the same new 64 GB Class 10 microSD card I recently purchased and put into my Note 3.

I have been having this same issue for a while. Some say it has something to do with the screen turning off. Android does not have an option to never turn off the screen. Ten minutes is the longest you can keep the screen on. If this were the case, then one can assume that once the screen shuts the intermittent disruptions in music play should stop, but it doesn't. There are apps that can turn off the function of timing out the screen, but since the screen uses a lot of power, it can drain the battery a lot quicker. I have yet to find a solution that solves the issue completely.

I discovered something today while driving. There is a function in display settings called "Daydream". When turned on, I can select to have the screen stay on while charging, or even when docked. I chose the charging. I was listening to Bluetooth audio all day and it didn't skip once. So it appears to me that the timer delay for the screen might be the culprit, at least for me it seems to be. We will see if this is a long lasting fix or just a temp and the issue starts again. Not exactly thrilled to have to keep my phone charging in the car. Car charging is not the greatest thing for batteries .

I've been having weird BT issues lately. I have to do the Boot menu and clear cache whatever every once in a while.
But lately, in the car, or through BT speaker, suddenly music will stop, if I try to click play on the app again, nothing will happen, like the BT function is in limbo, if I turn off bluetooth and turn it back on, then it works again. This phone is driving me crazy lately with all the BT issues... When I talk through a BT headset or the vehicle, it cuts out constantly, the people on the other end, say they are only hearing part of the conversation... I have tried numerous different headsets... Also, my favourite BT earphones, if I put my hand on the phone while in my pocket, cuts out the BT signal completely, it's ridiculous!

I have a issue where my Bluetooth headset stops playing the audio and will start playing in via phones speaker. like nothing ever happen. The transition from headset ton phone is so smooth. You never notice. My headset shows being connected and all settings to my knowledge are in order. I have a Nexus 6P and LG HBS760 Bluetooth headset. It does not matter the app. From Google play, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon video, or game audio. I have used Sound About to ensure the audio input and or output is directly to where it needs to be. With no luck at all. It only started doing it more frequently. Like with in the past day. Almost 30secs into any audio and starts doing it from a speaker.

I relate to your comment almost on a spiritual level. My Samsung s4 does the same thing. I saw this forum started 2 years ago, and nobody has an official fix for the problem... Great.

I can't believe this thread is still alive!

I am using the Galaxy S7 Edge now, and I have zero bluetooth issues. I don't know what Samsung did, but they seem to have fixed it. However, it could be anything from my use of the most expensive sd card I could find (with 90mb read AND write speeds) to Samsung's aggressive RAM management with the latest version of touchwiz. Or, it can even be the latest version of touchwiz itself (since it's a bit slimmer than previous versions). It's one of the best phones I have ever owned.

I have an S5, which exhibited the same problem of slight hesitation with Jam speakers. Out of the clear blue, problem came and went. It is now ok with Jam speakers, Bose, and car BT audio

I just installed IOGear GBU521, on my Toshiba laptop with Windows 10. There is now the slight hesitation with the Jam speakers. No problem with the S5 with the Jam speakers.

Hopefully, it will disappear as well..

I have wifi enabled and have no Bluetooth issues, anywhere. I had the skipping when connected to my car audio a year and a half ago but after resetting network the problem stopped. I've since upgraded to a galaxy note 5 and have never had an issue. I suspect it is more related to Android and Bluetooth directly, the version and what version of Bluetooth they try to connect to.

I had an S4 mini which had no issues playing music via Bluetooth with Spotify on my Bluetooth speaker.

I recently bought a J5 2016 and was disappointed to find that when I am connected to the same Bluetooth speaker I have always used I get this random audio cutout! It happens at least 3 times per track, seems that I have found a fix that worked for me and I hope it works for others too.

Goto applications > all > Bluetooth
Clear cache
Clear data

Goto Smart Manager > Battery > Detail
Find Spotify in the list and disable optimisation on this app (you may use a different app for your audio so check if optimisation is set for the app and if so disable)

Shut down the device

Power on in safe mode (when screen illuminates when powered on hold volume down for duration of boot up)

Connect the Bluetooth device

Turn off safe mode, this will restart your device.

When your device is booted try playing your audio, for me I now have a stutter free experience :) please let me know if this works for you.

So, since as long as I can remember, my Bluetooth sound has cut out intermittently, while listening. If I am in the car and the song is playing, the sound cuts out, every now and then, sometimes once or twice a song and lately, basically every few seconds, like a record skipping. It is just the sound, as the time on the song still continues. This is also happening when I use a BT speaker in the house, or BT earphones. It is driving me nuts! Yesterday, when I got in the car, the music started automatically as usual but started cutting out, so I unlocked the phone and checked to see what was going on and my SiriusXM app had started on it's own, so I exited that program and all seemed to work fine after that. But today, same thing, and I checked and no other audio program was running at the same time.
Could this be caused because the Gear watch is using BT as well? Also, sometimes when this is happening, my contacts etc, don't show through my car stereo and once they have synced it stops. But today again, the contacts had synced, but the music was still intermittent as hell!
I did a little more research and someone had said to delete the cash from the Bluetooth share or clear the cache I did this and the skipping stop I also at the same time unpair devices repaired and everything was fine

Looks like this skipping stuff has been going on for years now...with no real fix for all. I recently had to replace a stolen stereo unit in my vehicle. I had a Pioneer unit #FH-X720BT for several years with NO problems at all...perfect playback and quick connections to Bluetooth. I purchased the "replacement" model #FH-X731BT and immediately had very slow reconnects and a terrible case of the audio skipping on play back. Nothing else had changed..same phone, same vehicle, all conditions exactly the same. I also had purchased a Kenwood unit for a replacement in another vehicle. Same result...slow connections and skips so much that BT can not be used for playback. I do use the same phone and player to listen to music through several other devices with no problems at all. A cheep little FM adapter, a Ankar BT speaker, a Logitech BT adapter for my home system. All with no problems at all.The automotive units are all BT 3.0, the fm adapter is 2.1,and the Ankar is 4.0. So version of BT does not seem to come in to play for this problem. I did try an older Motorola G and it played fine with the newer unit that skipped with my present phone.
I have compared the published BT specs between my old Pioneer unit and the new one that skips, but nothing stands out, but something has to be different. Maybe someone can take a look a these specs and discern a difference between the two. I think if we knew what changed between these two units that we might have a real answer to this problem.
I did send the newer model back and purchased the same model as my prior unit, and everything is good again!
And,BTW.. I did try ALL the "fixes" that are listed here and elsewhere with NO success.
Anyone else have experiences with a particular unit ???

Found the solution!
The problem is having a lot of devices paired with your phone.
Go to "settings", Bluetooth, unpair all devices you no longer need/use. You can do that by clicking the settings icon next to the device you wish to remove, click unpair, do that for all the ones you dont need. RESTART YOUR PHONE! and that should take care of it.
I was having the same issue with my Galaxy s7 Edge.
Enjoy!

Well dang... Went to my only troublesome unit left, (returned the other one) did not delete or change anything on my phone, paired it again with the Kenwood unit that was terrible, fired up PowerAmp and it played flawlessly! o_O Did not delete any of my 6 BT paired devices and it was smooth as butter........ go figure! I had cleared and re-paired this same unit multiple timed before with no changes....sooo....idonno.?

The first thing you should look at is make sure your volume on your device is turned up.

As simple as this may sound, I was dealing with this problem after not having any issues for the longest time. The only variable that had changed is I recently brought my portable speaker indoors to use in the house and I went from adjusting the volume on the speaker when i was outdoors, to adjusting the volume on my phone when I was indoors.
Ever since I have made sure to keep the volume above half way - not a single issue.
