Help Heavy lag/freezing after update to 7.1.1

Didn't see many other new threads here, hope this one is ok. After updating to 7.1.1 OTA a few weeks ago, my N5X has been experiencing extremely heavy lag and freezing - everything from opening apps, going into Chrome, opening the app menu, etc etc. 20-30 second freezes, even up to a minute or two before the phone responds (it's a long time if you're just staring at your phone screen waiting for it). The subsequent OTA security patch that came through seemed to help things a little, but it's still quite frustrating. Is it just a bad OTA install? Is there a current easy way to retry an OTA install without having to wipe my phone? I'd rather not lose my data and info. I'm a Mac user, for whatever it's worth. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: Should also note that this is my second N5X, my original died to a fatal Nougat bootloop in October - this one is the refurbished replacement from Google. Not very happy with it - poorer battery life, a spot of dead pixels on the lower left of the screen, has never been as quick or responsive.
EDIT2: Also in the last several days noticing that the freezes are getting slightly less frequent, but longer; now usually at least 60 seconds.

You can try to wipe your cache. If that doesn't help, there's not much else to do beside factory data reset. Realistically, as long as you have your photos backed up through Google, the only thing you'll lose forever is your texts. You can re-download music, and your apps, etc. will re-download as long as you have your app settings backed up. Just be sure to use the correct option on the initial startup.
