firmware issue Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950FD)

Hi,

I have a serious issue with my Samsung Galaxy S8, 64 GB, dual sim. My phone has stock android, never rooted, never modified in any way. I run it in Australia but got it from overseas. After a system update (sometime in December) my phone rebooted (precisely on 29/12/2019), and after the reboot it got stuck at the android logo. Typical boot loop issue, so far so good.

Immediately after, I managed to boot into recovery mode with the intention to wipe the cache partition or do a factory reset, but neither functions worked. In fact, not a single function in recovery mode works. I can scroll up and down and select any option, but without actually executing the functions. And on top of that, after a few seconds the recovery mode freezes and I can't do anything but restart.

The only useful info in recovery mode is the following (on the top part of the screen):

"Android Recovery
Samsung/dreamltexx/dreamlte
/PPR1.180610.011/G950FXXU6DSK9" (please note that "G950FXXU6DSK9" is what it says there now, after flashing this particular firmware - see below. But the error messages were the same even before flashing).

and below, in the output part of the screen:
"fail to open recovery_cause(No such file or directory)#
Reboot recovery cause is [UNKNOWN]
Support SINGLE-SKU
File-Based OTA
Supported API: 3

When I attempt a factory reset (or any other function in the recovery menu), I get the following error message:

/firmware/android/compatible : no such file or directory"

Apparently the firmware "G950FXXU6DSK9" doesn't work. So I got myself Odin (Odin3_v3.13.1) to flash a working firmware but cannot, for the life of me, figure out the right firmware - mostly because I don't know the right PDA and CSC.

- my IMEI, as seen on the back of the phone case
- my phone serial number, as seen on the back of the phone case
- Chipset: Samsung Exynos 9 Octa 8895, obtained via IMEI.info
- OS: Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8.0 Oreo, obtained via IMEI.info
- I can enter the download mode
- I can enter the recovery mode, but not do anything

Here is what I don't know:
- my exact PDA
- my CSC
- and therefore, my exact firmware

Here is what I have tried, unsuccessfully:
- used the most current version of Kies; however my device is not supported.
- used the most current version of Frija (v1.4.2); however I got "error 102. unable to find firmware"
- downloaded and successfully flashed 3 different firmware versions, obtained from sammobile.com. these 3 versions are:
G950FXXS6DSL2_G950FOXM6DSK9_BTU
G950FXXU6DSK9_G950FOXM6DSK9_BRI
G950FXXU6DSK9_G950FOXM6DSK9_SMA
I have flashed AP, BL, CP, and CSC. I did not flash HOME_CSC. Then I tried also with HOME_CSC, but no difference.

however after successful flashing, the outcome in recovery mode was unchanged. I still couldn't use any of the recovery mode functions, and I still got the exact same error messages.

I also tried flashing G950FXXS5DSI1_G950FOXM5DSHC_XSG, which at least had the correct country code (XSG), but this one I couldn't flash using Odin, so I went back to a previous one (G950FXXU6DSK9)

Does anyone have any idea what my error messages mean, and how to overcome them? Can anyone tell me the exact firmware I have to use to get this to work again? Or is this not even a firmware issue?

Try installing Samsung's Smart Switch utility and try that to see if this will be able to fix your problem. Don't be surprised if it doesn't but it's worth trying just in case. Allso, it installs the latest Samsung driver so there's at least that, plus it's good to have a backup utility installed on your PC so when you do get your phone back to working condition again, use it to make backups on a regular basis.

If that doesn't work out, than yeah, you'll most likely need to manually flash a stock ROM. You mentioned you reside in Australia but where did you get this phone?
Go here, and select the ROM for the country the phone was sourced from:

Stop using those stock Samsung ROMs from other places, they are not interchangeable. Get the ROM that was created for your specific model (SM-G950FD), and the country and carrier the phone was originally from. Different carriers rely upon different frequency bands for their respective cellular networks and the hardware inside each model contains only the software/drivers/firmware that corresponds with that particular hardware configuration.
Oh, and be sure to go into the Windows Task Manager and kill the Samsung Smart Switch utility before you start up the Odin utility (or vice-versa). The two tend to conflict with each other (since both are basically using the same processes to access your phone) so run one or the other, not both at the same time.

i have same problem and it driving me nuts.
i downloaded latest firmware from frijia, updato, sammobile and managed to flash with no problem. yet still stuck at boot loop!
once awhile can boot till optimising app in safe mode then reboot

wipe cache, factory reset still failed!

so i went to samsung service centre. they told me the motherboard need to be replaced. and so i went to third party repair shop but didnt tell them that i went to samsung service centre. guess what? - motherboard faulty. so most likely your motherboard faulty

TAKE OUT your memory card, all of your phone data will go away. ( Looks like your data has gone already.)

PUT your device in DOWNLOADING mode (VOLUME UP + POWER + BIXBY)

STEP 3

Once you click on 'Start', entire process will take 5.5- 8 minutes. You will see 'PASS' message.

IF your screen got in BOOT (message) after completing STEP 1 - 3, do STEP 4.

STEP 4
In the ODIN, select AP file ONLY (no BL, CP, CSC) and click on Start. Process will take (5-6 minutes) and now you will be out from BOOT LOOP.

This solution will work 100%, if you have any issue, let me know here.

By golly, this worked! I was getting stuck on the boot screen after flashing to the latest stock ROM for my Note8 International (N950F). As promised in M P's post, simply reflashing just the AP file did the trick.

As mention in an answer above to reflash the AP file on Odin, again once you flashed the four files (BL,AP,CP,CSC)
Roms I tried, Where download from Sammobile and one from Freya.
Phone started randomly on its own, never tried to root or flash, it turned off one day and started bootlooping.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Exynos (SM-G950F Carrier Code: XEU) that wont boot.
Whenever i turn it on it either goes straight into download mode or into recovery with an error message saying "firmware info not valid"
Please could someone help me. Before all of this the modem stopped working, then the imei disappeared, then the efs folder became empty and now it wont even boot properly after me flashing with odin and it saying "PASS"

Once you click on 'Start', entire process will take 5.5- 8 minutes. You will see 'PASS' message.

IF your screen got in BOOT (message) after completing STEP 1 - 3, do STEP 4.

STEP 4
In the ODIN, select AP file ONLY (no BL, CP, CSC) and click on Start. Process will take (5-6 minutes) and now you will be out from BOOT LOOP.

This solution will work 100%, if you have any issue, let me know here.

Could anyone help me out?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Exynos (SM-G950F Carrier Code: XEU) that wont boot.
Whenever i turn it on it either goes straight into download mode or into recovery with an error message saying "firmware info not valid"
Please could someone help me. Before all of this the modem stopped working, then the imei disappeared, then the efs folder became empty and now it wont even boot properly after me flashing with odin and it saying "PASS"

This could mean there's a more serious hardware failure issue but it could just be a matter of using the correct ROM to flash your S8. Keep in mind that ROMs are not interchangeable and are very model specific. There is a direct correlation between a phone's hardware configuration (there are always going to be a variety of different internal components and combinations of components in each model and each variant) and each ROM has to contain only the necessary and matching software/drivers/firmware. So it's vital to only flash the correctly matching ROM to your phone. That not valid message could mean the ROM isn't the correct one, the issue being the installed Android operating system in that ROM just won't boot up because there's a software/hardware mismatch.
In extreme cases using a wrong ROM might hard-brick a phone but since you're just seeing a Download Mode/Recovery Mode message it's likely to be just a soft-brick issue. Try re-downloading the ROM and try flashing again, but be sure to pay very close attention to what ROM you choose. Where did you obtain the ROM you used?

I might have used the incorrect rom because i couldn't find the XEU version on sammobile so i just downloaded the BTU version instead.
I will try this and also do you have any advice on the imei disappearing??
