Hey guys, I boosted the gps reception of the Volt by putting thin pieces of aluminum metal underneath the battery cover to the left and the right of the rear-facing camera lens. Just plain aluminum foil doesn't seem to work. I'm experimenting with different placements and amounts of metal that I'm putting under the battery cover, but I'm getting some good results. I can actually get 3-6 satellite signals in my house whereas before I wasn't able to pick up anything. I just bought some copper tape - 10ft for $4.99 on eBay. It even says in the description that it is useful at boosting mobile phone GPS signals.

Feature:

I found a pretty solid gps enhancing solution while I'm waiting on my copper tape to ship. All it takes is some handy dandy aluminum foil. Here's a picture of what I did. My satellite connections have gone way higher than ever before. Earlier today I had about 6 or 7 excellent satellite connections. There's a huge difference in quality of gps. Check out the pictures.

See the attached picture. Signals from the GPS Test application and that's only showing 3/4 of the signals I was getting. The accuracy is amazing. These are the kinds of signals I'm getting outdoors and in the car should be similar because of all the windows. The pictures in the post above were taken from inside my house. Now that I've got the reception part figured out it should prevent the gps from losing its signal and acting so wonky. Now I just may need to tweak the gps.conf file some more, but I may not need to do that at all. I'll let everyone know how my test drives go. We just may get the Volt's GPS working after all. I nearly gave up on it, but since I have a ton of free time I decided to keep working on it. I'm curious to know if anyone has ever had as good of signals with their Volt before.....

YESS!!! Guys, it's working perfectly with the latest release of Lineage. Test drive number 1 - Maps gave perfect turn-by-turn directions, perfect rerouting, and perfect audio. I never lost my signals whereas before the signal would come in and out every so often. The aluminum foil really acts as an antenna booster and pulls in excellent signals...even better than my Samsung Galaxy. Spock1104 - I apologize for all the posts, but I finally struck gold. Not trying to take over your ROM thread, but I wanted to share this info because it genuinely works. Attached is the GPS.conf file I settled on. Rename the file to "gps.conf" and place it in your "/etc/" folder with "rw-r-r" permissions. Alternatively, delete everything in your gps.conf file and paste the entries below to "/etc/gps.conf" - Combine it with the aluminum foil fix I posted yesterday and your GPS will be good to go. Sometimes you have to move the aluminum foil around a little above the camera lens to get the signal increases. Use GPS Test to check your signals and when you see signals low to high 30's you'll know it's effective and needs no further adjusting.

I found some copper soldering wick. It works way better than just regular aluminum foil. I'm getting a lot of SNR signals close to 40 now....Go with copper tape, copper soldering wick, or copper wire if you can. See the SNR (signal to noise) ratio of each signal needs to be at least upper twenties to low thirties to get a fix and you need at least 3 satellite connections to keep a fix. The stock gps reciever in the Volt just isn't strong enough.

LOL, it's working great for me now. My gps is spot on. Did you try it out? I mean you can honestly get a fix with lower SNR numbers, but it's not very reliable. It's recommended to have higher signals for best performance. Before I used aluminum foil and copper wick under my battery cover my gps was hit or miss, but now it's perfect. I went for a drive today and some of my signals were in the 40's instead of being anywhere from 12-23. The difference is day and night.

Glad I could help. FYI, I got my copper tape in the mail today. It sucks. Copper soldering wick is the clear winner. All you do is double up a strand and cut it about an inch in length, then flatten out the ends. Place it just above the rear-facing camera under the battery cover. I'll upload a picture when I get home. It miraculously fixes the Volt's GPS problems.

Should be nearly the same on the Volt. I have a trip this weekend so if I get time I'm going to crack mine open tomorrow.

My signals are definitely just as good as that G2 Mini. I looked at the pictures. Sometimes mine are a decent amount better....like 35-41.

Is anybody else having issues with sending SMS messages (receive works fine) while on 4G LTE while on a Sprint network (Virgin Mobile in my case)? If I change my "Preferred Network Type" to 3G, I can then send SMS also. MMS messages work (send & receive) on 4G.

Ya I'm having the same problem, I flash back to carbon or PAC remix & it has no issues. But ya I get issues texting on cm13 its a bummer I love the ROM. I'm also on Sprint/Virgin Mobile!

I believe that it is a Lineage OS 13 / 14 bug only on Sprint network. Some phones reported a fix around 4/28/17 but only on official releases. It might be time for an update...if only my Ubuntu computer were still up and running I could attempt Spock's developer update tut on page 1.

I'm still having an occasional issue with wifi, but it happens way less than before the latest release. All I have to do is toggle wifi off and on to get it working again.
