My first post.....

Found tasker on the net and downloaded it..lovely

Sorted out my first task nicely and I am now turning off my WiFi as soon as I leave the vicinity of the nearest cell tower...lovely

So now I want an app on my phone to turn on gps when I am away from home.....ah...problem..gps is a system function so your tutorials tell me to use a plugin called secure settings...I am rooted but this app .or to be more precise a part of it called system + cannot see root.so won't allow me to proceed..surely. Everyone using tasker with system setting must have encountered this ?

Can anyone help. Please ??

This is actually the way i was trying to go and it illustrates my problem. securesettings will not ask for su permissions so it believes that I am unrouted and so denies me permission to mess with the system settings. Any other approaches ? Reading other posts seem to indicate not using securesettings because it does not get updated.
An alternative approach which i am contemplating would be for me to simply create a task which flashes up a warning on my screen to switch on "device only " rather than the "high accuracy" setting on the phone.

I have tried to get secure systems plugin working and discovered that if i use tasker on my nexus 10 tablet running android 5.11 ( lollipop ) then the plugin recognises root fine and allows me to turn gps on. I am therefore going to do some more work learning tasker on the tablet before reverting to my current problem with the phone and trying your Autoinput suggestion. i will report later on my progress..
