Under your bed
She's here. Just Black Pixel 2 XL 128 ordered through Fi on October 5th at 3 am. It's beautiful and everyone I work with was ooing and ahhing over it for an hour while I was setting it up.

Don't buy into the hype, good ones are out there, I know I have one. (and the streak continues)

I will be reporting more over the coming days and weeks and giving my thoughts as I did for the Pixel.

Wow this phone is super groovy. First impressions, it's the PERFECT size, front facing speakers are the way, the light, the truth, it's faster than lightning and slicker than snot. And ... I LOVE the squeeze sides.

Here's the question I have about the Pixel 2 (and the Note 8 ... and the iPhone X). Is it really worth over $850?

FWIW apart from a Samsung Galaxy Note7 I had for a few weeks last year, which was fully refunded of course, I've never spent over the equivalent of about $400 on a smart-phone. My current device is an Oppo R9 Plus that replaced the N7, had it for a year and still extremely happy with it, and is used for so many things, like music, photography, videos, games, phone calls, messaging, micro-blogging, payments, booking flights and hotels, renting bicycles, taxis, ordering food sometimes, etc. etc. battery life is great goes all day.

Ah, well I have the smaller one, so mine wasn't quite so expensive ;).

Hard to say. It works very well (fluid without feeling that it has been slowed down to achieve that smoothness), does what I need, and so far performs very nicely (reception, battery, the essentials). But if you are buying one of these it has to be for the software support, so the question is how much you value that? As someone who prefers to keep a phone for a while the 3 years of OS updates are a plus, but for someone who churns faster obviously less important. And if I decide I have time to mess around with the phone I know there will be a lot of options. These are things I would factor into the "is it worth it?" question, but may matter less to others.

I'm also out of line with many reviewers: I regard not having a mass of extra features which most people will never use as a plus - people who like that should buy a Samsung. I even disagree with the moans about "they didn't even include some earbuds"; I won't be using included earbuds anyway, so that's just e-waste as far as I'm concerned, and something we should be aiming to reduce.

Too soon to say. I wasn't disappointed with my Original Pixel XL purchase. I opted for trade-in though. Gonna test this one one out for a bit a decide whether I'm sending it back or sending my original in. $400 off the Pixel XL 2 when I send my old one in.

Not for me, no. But I always thought I'd never go (much) above $400 but here I am at $500 (if I keep it). Never say never and all of that. I'm not even sure I'd spend $850 on a laptop really...or a TV or a... Not that I can't, but I just can't.

I'm not saying they aren't worth it and I'm super glad people are enjoying them, happy new toys to everyone!!!

Well here's the thing, that's a very subjective question. For me, I rationalized it like this. I'm buying it with payments through Fi with Fi protection plan and it's going to be updated for 3 years. So for me it's really about $333 a year for the device I use most. I was very hesitant last year because I wasn't convinced this was the best phone, being the pixel. After having purchased one for $400 I realized it really was worth what they were asking for it. That's why I had no hesitation going in this time. The good news is, I haven't been let down for even 30 seconds since I opened the box on the Pixel 2 XL. Speaking of, more thoughts are inbound on my review.
