Root New "Root" Method For Z981(Zmax Pro)

Here's the thread for the one I flashed...
https://androidforums.com/threads/rom-unofficial-lineage-os-14-1-for-zte-zmax-pro.1285631/

Right after flashing it do not reboot to android without flashing gapps and magisk first. Gapps arm64/7.1/nano or micro. Any fixes for the rom are located within that thread. I will also be posting a new thread in the coming days with a custom kernel I built for lineageOS rom, so keep an eye out for that if interested.

Good luck ;)

I neglected to turn off encryption/screen lock before installing root. Now the phone does not boot. I tried restoring from a nandroid backup someone posted, but it still does not boot. It stays on a metro pcs white screen indefinitely. Any pointers on how to get this working?

You are now the proud owner of a paperweight.. sorry, it's why there's a step-by-step guide

yo same and i also dont have a backup rom so am i ****ed

If you can still get into twrp recovery...
  1. Try doing a factory reset including wiping internal sd.
  2. Flash Lineage OS 14.1 rom
  3. Flash opengapps arm64 - 7.1 - nano or micro
  4. Flash magisk
  5. Reboot and enjoy!

I wish I knew the software I had for my old zte warp. Best flash software where you can start from scratch in ftm mode. I googled that program

That happened to me too, in a different way, but I can confirm that your phone will be okay once you go to LineageOS. However, I still haven't found a way to go back to stock, so I think if this happened to you then it's over for stock ROM.
It's like going to Neverland, but now you can't return home o_O

Now for my question: The custom ROM has been working pretty great for me, some bugs I wish had fixes, but one that really needs to get fixed is where my phone likes to randomly shut off if it's not on charge or not being used. It's hard to do anything on it because it shuts down completely and I have to do the complete reboot process each time I leave my phone and come back later. Can anyone solve this? Also, I found the problem of why things like SoundCloud and other apps do not work, you can find that here:

Whats up people?
I have a question.
I have a Zmax pro I'm wanting to root but the phones screen is cracked and has a dead spot right where I need to cancel in TWRP. Of course it doesn't rotate in TWRP so,is there anything I can do to get around having to cancel the password so I can flash a ROM?
Any help appreaciated.

@bcrichster has made very good suggestions, I'd like to add that you can also push an open recovery script to /cache and on rebooting to recovery it should execute the script.
more about that stuff can be found

One other, last suggestion: TWRP themes! They usually move the selection buttons around. So a little trial & error should provide a usable twrp for ya that make the break easier to deal with..
