How can I fix problems caused by rooting with TWRP and SuperSU?

My research has suggested that perhaps SuperSU v2.76 is the problem, and that I would need to use SuperSU v2.82. However, I cannot find any way to get SuperSU v2.82 onto the device.

I suspect I need to start from scratch somehow, but I'm very new to Androids and rooting and I'm not sure what to do.

Can anyone please give me some advice?

The main problem was getting SuperSU v2.82 or Magisk onto the device, as my PC wouldn't recognise it when connected via USB, nor could I access the internet from the phone in any way (wifi and mobile data were not functioning), and the SD Card was not picked up by my phone.

Fortunately, before I had rooted the phone, I had followed advice read elsewhere about having the stock Samsung firmware on hand in case of problems, which I had already downloaded from Updato.

I unrooted my phone with the option in SuperSU, and with @Jfalls63's encouragement, I decided to flash the stock firmware back using Odin, something I was worried about doing in case I ruined it further.

Thankfully, everything worked perfectly after doing this. No files or apps were lost, and I could connect to my PC via USB. This gave me the chance to start from scratch.

@bcrichster made me reconsider going the SuperSU route, so I did some further research into Magisk and how to root using it, which took a while because a particularly engrossing episode of Deep Space Nine was on at the same time.

Turned out I simply needed to place the latest Magisk zip file onto my phone via the USB connection, just like I did with SuperSU, and flash the device with TWRP same as before, then install Magisk from the TWRP Recovery menu. After that it was recommended to install Magisk Manager, which I did.

This process successfully rooted my phone and all functions are working correctly.
