Android Pie (Beta) Pros? Cons?

Above user is correct.. no longer in Beta it was rolled out earlier this week. I did the update right away (I always do) but this is the first time I wish I hadn't. There are significant issues I've noticed mainly with auto brightness & sound.
Auto Brightness - It just flat out doesn't seem to work properly. Screen will be fine and then will suddenly just go very dark, even if no lighting in the room has changed.
Sound - This is the worst part of the update by far. Certain apps/games, the sound is unusable. Even at the lowest setting, the speakers are just SCREAMING loud. Then they will go quiet.. then SCREAMING loud again. It's crazy and beyond frustrating. At the moment you can no longer just quietly enjoy an app/game on your couch at a low volume setting, without the entire room hearing your phone.

If anybody has seen/heard (no pun intended) of resolutions to these, please post! Thanks!

I was afraid of that part... I prefer to keep things low key when it comes to brightness and audio.

Maybe I should wait until they put in a patch before I update??

I didn't even pay attention and thought this was just a regular update. Nope it was the new Pie crap. So far I hate how you no longer can easily close an app by just seeing every app that is open on top of each other with just a name and then swiping left or right (great for those that use other hands) to close the app. Now you have to click on the 3 bars (the nav panel at the bottom is always now on and you can't hide it like before), then you see each app like a page on Google. you have to flip through every page until you find the app you want to close and then swipe up.

The icons as so many have mentioned all over the internet, looks like it was designed by a 2 year old. It's basically a lot more fluff than functionality it seems and looks just ridiculous. Then again, what is there to expect from a company that uses things like Lollipop, Oreo, KitKat, Pie for their upgrades. That in itself seems to streamline to little kids and not adults.

The whole feel just feels like it's a Fisher Price device now and not a smart phone for an adult.

Others have mentioned the sound, and I had to go into setting to tweak a bunch of things myself. Bixby users are having issues, but I have that turned off so wouldn't know. Some apps won't work. Haven't really opened a lot yet to see, but my friend said a number of hers stopped working and I did find one app that seemed to work, but a popup did say it may not work correctly.

I also turned off the Auto-dialer and swipe to call and stuff. Many people have experienced that the phone will start to call the last person they texted as there are some new features that are automatically turned on that will do this now. I found it by searching in the setting for "Motion" (Advanced Features/Motions and Gestures) and turned off the Direct Call and Swipe to call or send messages. However, I'm not sure about those reports where the phone seems to call the last person texted, not sure if it's related to these options or just a bug.

Contacts I am finding hard to sort by letter. They have a new panel on the right side that only has every other letter, but it seems that it never works right. If I want to list all my C contacts, I end up seeing all the D ones and such. It's just very annoying. That panel now also seem to hide randomly and that's another feature I hate.

So far this is just from a few hours of updating. So haven't checked on the battery issue some have had (and mentioned in here already).

Europe is coming out with fixes in the next few weeks I have heard, but no idea when it will be for North America. I'd hold off until those come out just to make sure they addressed some of these issues. I'm just happy I wasn't travelling on a trip when I updated the phone. Next time I need to make sure it's not a monthly update when I just don't think and just say fine update the phone...

I got the Metro-branded update on my S9 a couple of weeks ago. Overall I don't think it's horrendous, although I have noticed some quirks.
WiFi calling isn't as stable as it was on 8, it will sometimes require intervention to turn on and often changes the preference from wifi preferred back to cellular preferred. Why give me the option to set that if the phone keeps overriding it?
If you use the auto (now adaptive) brightness I think you have to give it time to learn your setting preferences for different light levels. It should learn over time as you make manual adjustments and then remember them as the ambient light changes.
If there was a hit to battery it wasn't huge and it may be getting better.
I haven't noticed any sound issues yet.
I do like the option to use a dark theme everywhere.
For messages I'm using the Google Messages app so that isn't an issue.
Maybe some other odds and ends I can't recall at the moment.
