Don't feel too badly, my friend--many, if not most, engineering majors are very bad at writing essays. They more than make up for that by being very smart in other areas.

just feeling nostalgic i'm currently reading the first 3 books of the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey its a great mix of fantasy and science fiction rolled into one.

Coincidentally, I just finished reading Crystal Singer.

Well as an academic I obviously strongly disapprove of essay writing services (though as a physicist we don't ask our students to write many essays!).
As for the book, I have a particular affection for another reason: the middle part of the book being set in Geneva, which is an area I know quite well, including having lived in the old town, which at the time the book was written would have been the main part of the city. Always fun to compare the descriptions with the place I know.
I had something similar reading Hilary Mantell's novel of the French revolution, A Place of Greater Safety: I knew the region of Paris some of the main characters inhabited well enough that I could picture many of the locations from life, and realised that I'd stayed in an apartment on the street where one character lived (the description of steep, narrow staircases there matched my experience too).

Just finished "reading" Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton. It's a post-apocalyptic (zombie) novel told from the perspective of a crow (Shit Turd or S. T.) raised from the egg by a redneck electrician in Seattle. This is a really funny homage to the natural world of the Pacific Northwest and a scenic tour of Seattle, as S. T. first tries to save his Mofo (what he calls humans) Big Jim and then, after Big Jim tries to eat him, rescue himself and his companion-- the dog Dennis. S. T. must learn what it is to be a Crow, and rescue all the other domestic animals trapped inside houses while avoiding being eaten by sick mofos and wild animals.
