Paranoida..

i have 2 samsung gear s3 and the gear sport.

the only con that i see is the battery. just the fact you need to keep charging it.most watches these days you can get 1.5 days to 2 days.

the pros are many. if you get a notification on your phone, you do not have to dig the phone out of your pants to find out what it is. you can make and answer phone calls thru the watch.....dick tracy style. most have pretty decent fitness apps. i like samsung health cuz, you can go on a run, walk, or hike and it will map where you go. it will have a lot of useful stats like heart rate, steps, elevation, avg speed,..... etc

Do they heat the wrist any more than a normal watch (i.e. just from covering the wrist)?

I use a fitness band for notifications (and as a secondary application all of those statistics they collect). I wear a real watch for time, and would not replace that with a smartwatch myself.

For me the big drawback of a smartwatch is the short lifetime of it: it's another device which the manufacturer intends to be replaced every couple of years, whereas I except a watch to last me for decades.

Not in my experience, and I've been wearing a smartwatch since ~2013.

For me, the primary pro is being able to handle (as in, act on rather than just view) notifications on my wrist so that I don't have to reach for my phone whenever it goes *ding* - with built-in fitness tracking being a close second. I also really enjoy being able to customize watch faces to exactly suit my needs (I support servers around the world so displaying UTC in addition to local time is a must).

The only con I wrestle with is battery life, but if I'm already throwing my phone on a charger each night it's not much of a hassle to do the same with my watch.
