Have you returned your Incredible and now are back to using the Eris?

The only beef I have with the Droid Incredible is the screen. I don't know why, but my Eris seems to have richer color while the Incredible has this sorta washed out blue-ish thing going on (mind you, i had both phones at their brightest setting with the exact same wallpaper when comparing).

And as beautiful as the AMOLED screen is. It's terrible in direct sunlight. I have a feeling that's why many companies haven't gone that direction yet. That and demand can't keep up with supply.

What's the hold up Samsung?

Well the camera isn't the WORST I've ever used, but I hear ya man...especially on 2.1, the pictures blur really bad unless you hold your hand still for like 10 seconds...can be very frustrating.

I don't think it's SO bad. I mean, it takes a few taps to get it to focus on the plane that I'm trying to get sharp. But once it's focuses, I have gotten some decent low light concert photos

Oh man, if people are returning the Incredible because the camera is bad compared to the Eris, it must be REALLY bad. The camera on the Eris is the worst I've ever used on a phone.

Then you probably have used some really good cell phone cameras.

Here is a picture from an Eris at VGA resolution.

And here is the almost exact same picture from a Nokia E63 at VGA with flash disabled to make it fair.

Makes the camera on the Eris look pretty good doesn't it?

You have got to be doing something wrong, then. I have gotten great pictures with my Eris that are clear, crisp, full of detail and colorful.

I am an amateur photographer, and my main camera is a Canon EOS 50D, so I know a little bit about photography. The 5MP camera on the Eris is not perfect, but like I said, I'm getting some great shots with it.

Here is one such image taken with my Eris:

The Bad:
-CDMA radio performance
-Possible grounding issue (Touch screen will not always work based on what material the phone is sitting on)
-Cheap plastics (Not what HTC normally puts out. Almost as if it's designed to be dropped and broken)
-8 MP camera is very poor quality for an 8mp camera
-Same battery as the Eris (And the Eris forum thought battery life was bad)
-Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 , 1 GHz (This 65nm processor is a power hog and has poor 3D processing. TI's newer 45nm OMAP 3 and OMAP 4 with PowerVR technology seems to be just as powerful but uses less power and has better GFX acceleration)
-3D accelerations of the integrated ATI z430 (The Droid with it's less powerful OMAP 3430 processor seems to be able to do a better job at processing 3D graphics.)
-Out of stock (You are put on a month long waiting list if your phone is defective. Unacceptable Verizon)
-Screen is almost unusable in direct sunlight.
While you're certainly entitled to your opinions, and I have no interest in bashing the Eris, I'm not sure where you are coming from with most of your cons... Let me start by saying that I have both the Eris and the Incredible, and both are active.

Here are my experiences:

-CDMA radio performance
The Incredible is nearly identical to the Eris, and although the Eris seems to have a ~5dBm advantage over the Incredible, this typically isn't enough to have any impact at all.

-Possible grounding issue
I have never run into this, and while there are a couple of posts about poor response from the touch screen in the Incredible forums, I don't think this is a widespread/high-impact issue.

-Cheap plastics
Where? The battery cover, which is what I typically see people complain about on the Incredible, is almost exactly the same as the Eris. While I think the form-factor of the Eris is a little more stylish, there is nothing about the Incredible that seems cheap to me. The screen may be more prone to shattering than the Eris', but that is primarily a factor of the AMOLED screen's thinnness. This is not an issue of HTC being cheap, but rather one of a technology that probably still has some wrinkles to be worked out. Still, I get what you are saying. The Eris is probably a little sturdier.

-8 MP camera is very poor quality for an 8mp camera
No, but it's awesome quality for a phone camera, and is leaps and bounds better than Eris'.

-Same battery as the Eris
Sure is - but I get better battery life out of the Incredible than I did on the Eris, all things being equal.

-Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650
"Seems" is a subjective term. While - on paper - the Incredible does fall short, I haven't seen any sort of proof against real-world Android apps that the Incredible is falling behind. This may prove out differently in the future, but while the Moto Droid may outperform the Incredible in this area, the Eris certainly won't.

-3D accelerations of the integrated ATI z430
See previous.

-Out of stock
This is certainly inconvenient... If something goes wrong with your Incredible. For the vast majority of us, nothing has gone wrong. I'm also not sure that your statement is accurate. Maybe I've missed them, but I haven't seen statements on the Incredible forums that the wait for a refurb is that long. Even if it is, this is a temporary issue - not a defect with the Incredible.

-Screen is almost unusable in direct sunlight.
I find it very usable.

OK... all of that being said, I get your basic premise. You admit that the Incredible is a technically superior phone to the Eris, but are saying that the difference betweeen the two isn't compelling enough to you to warrant the price differential. That's cool. My wife feels the same way.

That's why I asked if he paid the $529 or the $169. I have both and agree with your wife (haha, I learned from mine never to disagree) that it's not worth the full retail if you have an Eris.

FWIW megapixels don't mean jack when it comes to picture clarity. it is all in the optics/lens.

Not entirely true. Having a large number of megapixels will not guarantee picture quality, and optics are extremely important if a quality image is to be captured. But, there is a huge difference between what is possible at 3MP and what is possible at 8MP. The higher the megapixel count, the more information a sensor can capture and store.

As far as quality images, I will rely on my Canon dSLR for the bulk of my images. But the Eris has surprised me, and provides and alternative to play around and have a workable camera available most of the time that I'm out and about.

Before the Eris, I had an LG Dare, and it was almost impossible for me to get a clear image. If it was a landscape or scenic shot, the image was marginal. Anything close up was out of the question. Given my experience with the Dare, I'm thrilled with the Eris.

This thread has completely gone for a loop. As I stated this is only my opinion and is meant to be interpreted that way. Another hope with this thread to also let the Eris owners know they aren't missing as much as they might think, because they are stuck in a contract and waiting might end up prevailing in the end.

It is more or less a discussion of why people ended up going with the Eris instead of the Incredible. I stated my opinion of the device that is all.

This discussion is not meant for the Incredible users to come in here and start bashing people because they think their phone is being threatened.

Ya this post is inaccurate. I have not seen anyone who said they are going back to the Droid or Eris..I actually have seen one who said they were going back to the Droid but that we because he thinks the droid will get Froyo before HTC products. You sir are just making a non intelligent post the Incredible blows away the Eris there is no comparison and I have owned both.

I returned my Inc for the Eris and here is why.

The Inc feels flat out cheap. By cheap I mean the light plastic around the glass. It will not help much in a fall. The camera lens cover shooting out of the back almost seemed like a direct tunnel to snap the screen if dropped on it's back. I felt that I needed to carry that thing in in 2 cases to avoid breaking it.

The screen outside was pretty bad. There is a reason they stopped making Amoled and went to Super Amoled.

The Inc dropped calls in places my dumb phone never did and my Eris has yet to drop in those same places.

The "grounding issue". If i was charging my phone on it's back the touch screen was useless.

The terrible battery life and charging. There were many discussions on charging the Inc battery. You could charge it, phone on all night. In the morning you could power the phone down and it would continue to charge for 30+min. This seemed to be the reason why when people unplugged their phone from the charger in the morning it would drop to 92% battery within 1min. The Eris does not do this.

I could go on but the main reason was the price and durability. I do not feel the Inc would have survived for 2 years while waiting for my next New Every Two. I bought a Referb'd Eris and I can now use my New Every Two for the next Android phone that will come out in 6 months. Maybe it will be more solid.

I know some people think this is some type of an attack on the Inc or Eris fanboyism. It is neither. I used the Inc for 2 weeks and then the Eris for 2 weeks. I liked the Eris. Just my opinion.

Good point about durability. I took out insurance on the Incredible through Square Trade because of durability issues. I thought it was going to be too easy to break. Normally I sell my phones when I'm done with them, but I didn't even think the Incredible was going to be in good shape by the time it was time to sell it. My Eris still looks brand new and I've had it since December 23rd. The Incredible looked more worn in 3 weeks than the Eris in 6 months.

Also a good point with Super AMOLED. That's probably why there is such a delay on shipments. I bet Samsung probably only has one assembly line open making AMOLED and 5 making Super AMOLED screens.

I'll make a note of this in the OP

only con i see for the inc is price, i have messed with it thoroughly at the store....it i had the cash to upgrade to one i would in a second.

I'm with this guy
guess that means me and Caddy would jump over to the INC threads and continue the fun over there. But it might be wayyy too hard to leave OTD with all the Eris kids to herself, this is the best bunch of users on AF

For my part, I wasn't (although I'd agree that others were). I think that, if you're going to post reasons why the Incredible didn't add enough value for the cost, it's fair to allow opposing viewpoints. This seems in keeping with the title of the thread. In my case, I have not returned my Incredible, and so am not back to the Eris. That being said, there is a right and a wrong way for people to disagree with your well-presented opinions - but the sad truth is that you can't express an opinion on this (or any other) message board without taking some flack. In any event, enjoy the Eris!

i like this thinking
If anyone wants to start a donation page for people who want an Incredible you let me know. I've got some Honda parts if anyone wants to buy in order to get the Incredible =]

How about a donation page for anyone who plans on buying a better Android phone in the future? I mean...sure, that is sort of an endless loophole, but you know...it's the thought that counts.
