Getting Evo Tomorrow.. HOW DOES EVERYONE LIKE IT SO FAR??

I love it! Android is awesome and HTC did a great job with the look and feel of the Evo. Two thumbs up!

The good: It's like a ball of sex in your hands.


The bad: It's not actual sex in your hands.


The verdict: Get this phone, it's like being able to hold a ball of sex in your hands.

no complaints here. dont listen to all the people saying that there is a battery problem. i went 18 hours with 30% battery remaining today. some people just dont know how to use settings effectively.

I believe this is true to a point, because there are quite a few people who have bad life out of the box. It can't be denied the battery is definitely not one of its strong points. Seems to be hit or miss. Mine is right now looking at about 24 hours per charge, give or take a bit, and I've tried a lot of things to keep the battery up.

Overall though, I give it 2 thumbs up. I came from a voyager though, so the battery is killing me. not used to the 'smart' phones. I love the features though.

It's amazing. Once you look around the forums some more you'll see all the professed love for the Evo and it's buffet of sexiness.

Loving mine! Best phone ever.

Loving it, its gets more awesome daily.

My only gripe is HTC Sense. These 3rd party UIs need to stop.

Loving mine. Qik is pretty cool.

I did knock the battery down to 15% by 3PM today but I get horrible signal in the office and I left the wifi (not associated) on for about 3 hours.

Gonna try again tomorrow without leaving the wifi on - lol.

Well I guess I am one of those that don't know how to use their settings effectively.

Truth be told, it depends on your habits. Myself, I like to keep everything on. I get tons of emails, tweets, check webpages, sometimes watch videos and more. Although I have a laptop next to me at work , I still check the evo for incoming stuff. All of that drains my battery to zero. So yeah I could change my habits, but its hard. So I keep the evo plugged in all day and in the car. Others have also experienced battery letdown, but overall I am very satisfied I have the EVO.
Currently I am trying out a few things to rectify the battery drain problem and it seems to be working. That leads me to believe that its fixable via a future update.

I agree. I had a Samsung Moment which was very vanilla. I think Sense brings the UI to a different level. But I guess you'd have to experience "vanilla" to know the difference.

The delay on firmware updates is a huge thing, and its blocking an app I want to use. I prefer the stock Android look and feel over Sense.

It feels like a waste of 49.7M of memory. All of the widgets can be duplicated from things in the market, the only one I really like is friendstream. I've got to wonder what people do with 7 home screens, but some people have alot going on. It just feels like bloatware, like the Sprint crap that it comes with.

I love the phone though!

edit: Something I don't understand though, I get better battery life with Sense than just the Launcher.

I really want to like it, because there is a lot to like, but it has a littany of issues that make it something I am returning rather than hoping they will be fixed before I am locked into needing to pay an ETF to get rid of it.

The screen is gorgeous and responsive.

The battery life is as good or better than any other SmartPhone I've used (and that's a long list), and easily makes it through the day with what is currently probably still higher than typical usage.

I can get three+ hours use as a wireless hotspot with it from a full charge with no problem (though there are other issues here, see below).

The camera is quite nice. Not in the same league as even the lowliest three-megapixel dedicated point and shoot, but easily the best I've seen on a phone that ISN'T intended to be a camera first.

It is VERY fast.

It feels nice in the hand, but the fit and finish is lacking. The battery cover does not fit properly and there are gaps, some leaking light, around the bottom edges of the phone.

It doesn't hold a 4G signal worth a damn. I live AND work in areas with very good coverage (Seattle essentially). I have a Sprint OverDrive (mobile 3G/4G hotspot) that holds a solid 4G lock, and the often Evo either won't see 4G at all in the same places or says "4G Network!" and then instantly drops the connection.

When it does get and hold a lock, the speeds are very good indeed (starting at 3Mb/s and going up significantly from there).

The Sprint Hotspot functionality is useless for me. With the phone getting a solid 4Mb/s downstream when tested directly, devices connecting to the hotspot are seeing about 300Kb/s. I've tried multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, half a dozen Dell laptops, several Toshibas and so on) and ALL of them get LOUSY speed via the hotspot, even when the phone is chugging along on a very fast connection. And this is with the devices it is feeding maybe 3 feet from the Evo.

I don't know if the hotspot issue is software related, but using my OverDrive in the precise same situations I get about 3.5Mb/s on those devices and with MUCH lower latency.

I also experience significant packet loss when using the Evo's hotspot functionality. This is a deal killer for me and occurs on both 3G and 4G connections. I don't know if it is a software issue or hardware, but the hotspot performance is so poor as to be unusable.

My OverDrive, in the same locations, on the same networks, feeding the same devices, works properly, the Evo does not.

Right now it feels half-assed. It has a ton of features, but either the hardware or the firmware has issues. If it is software, and it might well be, then they can be fixed. I am just not willing to "wait and see" when doing so is going to cost me $200 only to potentially discover that no fix is forth coming, or it is over ambitious hardware causing the issues.

I did consider that I might just have a bad unit. So I tried the hotspot on a friends Evo ... same exact issue.

If I didn't care about the hotspot functionality I'd likely deal with the other issues because the overall experience is very good indeed (far better than I expected). But if I have to keep my OverDrive anyway then I don't need to be paying extra for data options that don't work properly even in a charter region.

Love it. I get great battery life I don't see why everyone cries about it. Going to buy the wife one tomorrow, she also loves the phone, she picked mine up for me and didn't want to give it up.
